Will the state be paying 80% of premier league players salaries?

    What makes him impressive?

However, yes it can as football is a business. It's up to 2.5k per employee and 80% of that.

It's up to 2.5k. Think most are over that.

To say he has only been in post a few weeks and had this unprecedented situation thrust on him I think he is doing a great job

I agree. A very impressive public speaker. I actually think Boris is doing a good job in hugely difficult circumstances

Leeds and Birmingham are many clubs in the Championship asking players to defer on wages or take pay cuts.

Think the EFL might have dig deeper.

I might be wrong, Fordy, but I thought the payments made so far are simply an advance on the usual Solidarity Payments and the only other source of support is the promise of interest free loans up to a certain limit. If I'm wrong, apologies.
Don't expect the EFL to do much, although I think and trust Dave Baldwin will shake them up when he takes over as CEO in June but by then......who knows.
You are right about clubs already being squeezed, I've seen the comments on Birmingham this morning, we already have 60 redundancies at Barnet but this is across all professional sport. Northampton Saints RU have asked players to take 50% cut/deferral, Ralph Rimmer and others at the RFL are shouting loud for Govt. help and so on.

My own views and they are my own are these and I know colleagues at BCFC don't necessarily agree.
    1. Think the season is becoming more likely to be abandoned unless all games are played behind closed doors but that still incurs cost which may not be recoverable. Lower Leagues are now stopping and I think this will work its way up the pyramid.
    2. Financial help from PL. As Adrian Chiles said last week, "Good luck with that". They are unlikely to part with a penny and although it hasn't been said yet I think they are already in jeopardy with the loss of TV money. I think that is the reason Chris Wilder has changed his tune from extending the season to play now behind closed doors.
    3. We are going to see carnage in the next month and a reshaping of our game/structure. My forecast is that up to 15 Clubs in the NL and Conf. North and South will go out of business. There will be many others below that level. In L1 and L2 I suspect as many as 10 will fail in one form or another and up to half those may not survive at all. In the Championship I suspect as many as 5 may be in Admin and not all will survive, one prime candidate for failure in my humble opinion, being Bolton.

In other sports Rugby League as we have known it will collapse and pay the price for its obsession with promoting money drainers like Toronto.
Sorry to be gloomy in this bad time but that's how I see it but I do see being back at VP at some point.

You're not wrong. The money which the EFL has already agreed topay clubs is simply an acceleration of the money they are due anyway over the next two months. The loans which are being made aren't a lot better. They have to be collateralised against the comings season's solidarity and TV rights distribution. The EFL aren't putting their own money at risk!

I'm sure it's all helpful for the many clubs which will have cash flow issues without matchday income coming into the coffers. But it certainly isn't the EFL/PL dipping into their own pockets to subsidise clubs through this difficult time. And if we are waiting for PL clubs to subsidise the EFL, I suspect we will be waiting a very long time.

I agree with you. There will be some inevitable casualties throughout the EFL pyramid and that's to be expected given what the country is going through. But it's still only a game. There really are life and death issues which are far more important than this. Apologies to Bill Shankly!

@wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler yes mate you're collect the money by the EFL are advanced payments the clubs would have got anyway.

    Thanks for your views.

I don't see the point in ending the season and if it is to end it has to be settled some how. I just don't see the point in ending the season. Gives clubs no hope.

The sporting Industry is getting hammered and I do think many will go to the wall. If Leeds are asking for players to defer wages then other clubs will be in deep trouble including ours. I agree many clubs will go to the wall.

The PL will go behind closed doors and my guess like the retail industry they've been informed by the government the greater plans for the country. McDonalds and Primark didn't just close on Monday without being informed by government what the plans were hence PL talking about behind closed doors games 1st of June.

Rugby and maybe cricket could be done with if don't start sport soon.

So would you deny Liverpool the championship and Leeds and West Brom the premiership.and all the other issues. They should finish the season whenever that is

I would normally agree Park but sadly the options are reducing. The one option that does come into play is finish this season whenever and scrub next season but that would be catastrophic.
I keep hearing whispers that the SPL are going to stop and name Celtic as champs with all other Leagues in Scotland frozen with no promotion or relegation but additional payments of some sort to clubs in promotion positions, only rumour.

As to England I believe Liverpool will be crowned Champs with Leeds and WBA promoted and financial settlements on the also rans and more clubs down from the PL at the end of next season, again rumour.

I think the PL, EFL and FA will do what ever the lawyers think will be the cheapest option

There is no easy answer here but if we were in say Swindon’s position it would be devastating to miss out on what they deserve. One thing for sure there is trouble ahead

No personally I think the season needs and must finish no matter when that is. Even if it's next year.

I do think the PL will finish no matter what as you have too many issues if you don't like CL places etc and teams like Leicester, Wolves and Sheff Utd might not get a better chance in finishing in a CL spot.

As for the EFL, again it needs finishing.

I'm not one with this obsession for next season because next season could be years away. Let's concentrate on this first.

I assume your "trust me" comment is because you have a direct line to the PL, EFL and the FA .
