The board has to carry the can for that.

Until this club gets some identity and real football men involved at the top then we're going nowhere.

The gaps in our squad weren't just stark, they were acknowledged by Hopkin. But worryingly he couldn't do anything to plug those gaps. Whether that was because the type of player he was looking for just weren't available or whether the promised funds to strengthen the squad weren't forthcoming or whether the club used those funds differently to how Hopkin expected is anybody's guess. But as we all know, Hopkin resigned just over weeks after the transfer window closed whilst we still had a chance of avoiding relegation.

You know what yes I would be happy with tenth. So what? We are on the downward spiral and it will need an overhaul to have a competitive squad at that level again.

Of course he’s always had a target man type. He had Gestede at Blackburn. Jamille matt and Armand Gnanduillet at Blackpool. Which one of those is not a target man?

What’s this best strike force in league two are you talking about?

We all have different views on managers and whether they can fix our problems. For me Bosyer has done very little wrong, he is trying to do what our previous managers have done, find the best fit and play a system that embraces the players skills. So yes he has made some mistakes in both player selection and systems.

Nevertheless, these players that we do have cannot be moulded into a team or squad, three managers have tried, and yet we still get that crap served up yesterday. Somebody has already mentioned this and it didn’t occur to me yesterday maybe because I have become used to ineptitude, but that was a poor pen, I thought so at the time, but Doyle’s lack of reaction says it all really, don’t think any of the players showed reaction either. You can be as skilled, mobile and have as much pace as you want, but if you don’t want to play for the club, manager or the team then you might as well pack in playing.

This has been mentioned before, but this lack of respect for the manager? Seriously? Every single one of those players need to look at themselves and not the manager. Your are a paid professional footballer, you listen to the manager and act on his instructions to the very best of your ability. You may not like the manager or think you know better, it doesn’t matter, you are not here to manage the team you are here to play your part in the squad and team.

I suspect much of it was financial. But I think some of it was complacency after our December form.

Call me stupid but I don't think it will end up being too difficult to get rid of the 80% you mention.

Let's start with those out of contract. NKP, Chicksen and Anderson will thankfully be chucked onto the shit pile where they belong and I'd be amazed if they got even a league 2 club next year, although that's not our problem. Jones, Devine, Clarke and Woods also will be gone. Caddis is the only one out of contract worth keeping although I would imagine he'd have league one offers. So he's probably gone too. So that's 8 gone so far.

Then as you rightly say the main issue is with those under contract. O'Donnell I want to keep but he may have a relegation clause like he did with Northampton so he'll probably be off. Then what's left? O'Connor, Riley, Wood, Akpan, Doyle, Scannell, Robinson, Reeves, McCarten, Mellor, Patrick, Gibson and Wright.

Gibson and Patrick I imagine will be gone quite quickly. I don't think they're on a big wedge so it won't be hard to get rid. Robinson if charged will have his contract terminated. 2 maybe 3 more gone.

It might be an unpopular opinion but I'd keep Akpan, Doyle, Scannell, Mellor and Wood. I'd imagine the first three though would see themselves above league 2 level and push for moves. And once a player pushes for a move it normally happens quite quickly, rregardless of money. If they don't and we still have them, you never know with a full preseason and a balanced squad they may be decent. So that could well be another 3 gone.

I think the hardest ones to shift will be O'Connor, Wright, Riley and McCarten. Hopefully Wright is homesick and moves back down south but I'm not holding my breath. Riley will go nowhere on the wage he is on I believe. O'Connor may be another who pushes for a move. I don't think going from Europa League to league 2 in 18 months is appealing to him. McCarten we'll be lumbered with I think. Lincoln wont want him permanently but he may do a job for us in league 2.

So i think that's more than 80% of the shite that we'll be able to get rid of. That may sound fantasy but we managed to get a fee (even if it was nominal) for shite like Poleon, managed to get Crawley to take over Vincelot's contract, Hamilton to take over Killa's (wrong decision but a high earner off the books), and got rid of Brunker to a side who probably don't pay their whole squad what he was on a week at city. I think it's possible.

I agree about the complacency argument. December provided some false hope to all of us and equally presented an opportunity not to invest as we'd all hoped for.

But we did spend something on the wages of Payne, Butterfield, Anderson, Woods and Clarke so why we didn't spend that money on Hopkin's priorities surprised me at the time. It's almost as though Hopkin wasn't really in control of recruitment and somebody else saw an alternative gameplan!

Scannell won’t stay. He wanted out a few weeks after joining and he’ll find another club. He’s no loss really because we never really had him.

Doyle I wouldn’t keep. I think there are much better ways to spend what will be a big wage - we need someone younger who can go on to be a better player. Akpan - no thanks. Absolute pansy who’ll get bullied by players half his size. I’d much rather have a Jim O’Brien type back. McCartan will go, probably to Lincoln and they’ll have few quid from going up. Riley will be a problem - who’ll take him? Maybe a few, but he’s on a big contract so will he take a drop or will we have to take a hit. Who’d want O’Connor? Or Wright? Or Reeves?

In terms of players with big contracts who could be hard to shift I think it centres around Wright, Riley, O’Connor, Akpan and Reeves. I bet Patrick is on a few quid too. I reckon that lot draw at least 20k per week between them. That’s 6-8 good league two players we can’t get if we’re saddled with them.

It's pointless discussing Bowyer, he leaves in a few weeks.

    Not interested.

We need the next manager lined up the second the season ends, none of this 'we need to be patient and appoint the right' bullshit, we need someone in, working, months before the window opens.
