Every bank holiday in the NL and below the teams play Saturday/Monday. I assume it's because many are part time so playing Friday night be problematic with work.

It's also beneficial for the clubs to cash in on Football League games on the Saturday so it's a small price for a big pay day then no Premier League on the Monday. Also travelling isn't a big issue unlike us if we had to travel down to Crawley on Saturday, get back late Saturday/early Sunday and be ready to play again on Monday.

We certainly did. Drew 1-1 at Walsall on the Saturday (7 May 1983) and then beat Sheffield United 2-0 at home the following day (Sunday 8 May 1983).

Man United and Arsenal also played each other on successive days in 2001. One in the league, one in the cup. Many of the players played in both games.

Man Utd played Liverpool and then Arsenal the day after with Man Utd playing almost their reserve team against Arsenal, who played a first choice team. Arsenal won 4-0

Most teams in 60s and 70s would play 3 games between Good Friday and Easter Tuesday. I remember in 79/80 season going up to Hartlepool on good Friday, playing Darlington home on the Saturday and Rochdale away on Easter Monday and we won all three. No moans about tiredness and certainly no squad rotation with a squad of about 17 players.

It's quite bewildering really when you hear managers moaning about having to play a game 2 or 3 days after the last game.

In many other physically demanding professional sports - athletes have to compete daily to their maximum level.. NBA, Horse Racing, Tennis et al, and they probably don't even have as good a treatment room as footballers have. Horse racing jockeys have to navigate heavy mammals several times a day, up until a recent rule change sometimes over 2 separate courses per day. NBA players during a season have to play daily, or every other day at best, over the course of several months, which includes travelling daily over a geographical location the size of Europe. Andy Murray was recently playing back to back 5 hour matches at the Australian Open after 2 hip replacements, yet we have Klopp & Guardiola moaning about having to play two 90 minute matches in the space of 3 or 4 days when they have a massive squad to chop and change.

    Football really is soft.
