I’ll confess I was for them at the time and so far have been proven extremely wrong. Seems to be a lot of Edin style meddling. The analytics element has something to it as proven elsewhere but they’re failing miserably

Possibly, though I think it's more of a "lets be seen to be doing something about 'racism'" as opposed to any sort of linear punishment.

The fact that many of the squad wanted him back recently (the cause of dressing room rifts that resulted in the sale of Nichols and a few senior players refusing to play), and majority of their supporters (see Crawley forum) want him back asap, suggests that it probably wasn't much more than a bit of dressing room banter that rubbed a few sensitive players up the wrong way.

He shouldn't have said those things but the context is important. If the Muslim players in the group were playing along and giving banter back then its a whole different scenario when it comes to whether he is racist or not. Regardless of whether there was intent to offend Mr Yems is an idiot at best and needs to be made an example of.
