Morning. Croissants and pain au chocolat. Birthday breakfast. I tried and I failed, but my eldest wanted a Caley Thistle shirt after watching the women's team on TV. Nice shirt though. Just have to hope the girls football starts up again soon. Thrilled with her Peat and Diesel band T.

There's been a bincident.

Having stood firm, the bins were not put out. But what's that noise? Yes, it's the bin men, efficiently going about their duties.

And what's that other noise? Why it's my neighbour, calling a jaunty "yo" from their bedroom window, presumably to request that they pause their round while he finally does the right thing and gets the bins out.

His call, however, goes unheard as the lads motor round to the next courtyard of this "desirable development*". The anguish is palpable.

I'm confident that, with bins now full for 2 long weeks, the neighbours will reflect on this and behaviours will change. It's a victory of sorts, but it's bittersweet.

When I was a kid in the fifties our local butcher used to have a huge steel bowl of dripping in his shop. Below the lthick layer of dripping was a rich pork jelly and the dripping itself was topped with pork scratching. It was to die for.

 

You know deep down you did the right thing.A victory is still a victory even the bittersweet ones.lots of people have built careers on “winning ugly”.Imagine if city win tomorrow with a goal in the last minute that comes of Rowe’s not
insubstantial arse.Will the team say “no we don’t want that victory because it was a bit crap”?Will they eckers like.They will take that 3 points and the adulation of their virtual supporters and celebrate like proper winners do.

Wise, wise words. I've just got to live in hope now; the hope of change. And limit my bin useage.

 

There is still some capacity in one bin. Minimal but workable for the amount of rubbish 1 cat and 1 human accumulate. It's a sacrifice I chose to make.

And then I turn to the non non wife and her, ahem, lovely empty bin.
