Which attributes are you looking for to apply a classification of impressive?

 

There's certain things I take into account...
1. The darker it becomes, away from the expected norm for that time of day elevates a thunderstorm in daylight hours.

2. Ferocity of rain - I'm wanting it literally bouncing down, roads temporarily awash and ideally people pulling unsuitable for the task clothes over their head in a futile attempt to stay dry

3. Volume - I like it loud. Rollin' thunder, pourin' rain. Sustained over several seconds and quickly followed up.

It's just ridiculous isn't it.

Last week I went to collect my insulin from the Asda pharmacy in the morning. I wanted to get it sorted because of Mum being in hospital. I was confidently informed that the brand of insulin was unavailable and I needed to go to the GP. Couldn't get through so visited physically and was advised that their in-house pharmacy had some, so could collect later.

Turned up late afternoon, no, they didn't have any. Suggested that I try another pharmacy, I did, they had some but needed Asda to release my prescription. Went back to Asda to release my prescription...but because I had already got some of my prescription they couldn't, I needed to go back to the GPs. So I did that and had to wait about 30 minutes for that to happen, so I could then go back to the alternative pharmacy to finally my insulin. Overall it took me about 3 hours for something that should have taken 15 minutes!

As someone whose career was based on process improvement work and reducing failure demand, this experience nearly finished me.

 

That is awful. Unbelievably frustrating.

 

Sounds like God is rearranging his furniture upstairs to accompany the downpour that is happening here.

 

This is a good start. Feels like there's a gap in the meteorological scales (see Beaufort) that could be filled with this new Hulmo Scale

Needs some development of quantifiable data points perhaps; how high the rain rebounds up off the pavement, speed at which someone decides to unplug the TV... And also some other levels of classification

 

On a scale of 1 to 10, how impressive would you say the storm is?

 

Far too impressive for me to venture out into. An 8 methinks.

 

Well, happily you don't need to go anywhere for 18 days!

 

Alas I am heading to Brid tomorrow, back to Bradford on Saturday and up the way to Falkirk on Monday, Fort William on Tuesday and back to Bradford on Wednesday.
