The figures I posted were for the over 40s and I am in full agreement that the most vulnerable are those who need it, and I am dead against Covid passports and the risk to 20 year olds is nil, and my children won't be having the vaccine anytime soon if at all.

Over 50% of those in a more vulnerable age range not taking it doesn't seem like a good risk assessment.

Once again 100% agree and you have every right to do it.

On a more general level though is there not a danger that "we" are are having a bit of a freak out because a specific area - one that has had problems of control throughout the pandemic - but has now multiplied that by a low vaccine take up, is seeing an increase in cases. Wouldn't that be expected and not necessarily replicated across the country?

the actual quote in the article doesn’t agree with the tag line.

“The increase in admissions is seen across the age range from 35-65. The majority of patients have not received a vaccination dose, but many would have been eligible.”

So a majority hadn’t received a vaccination and many of those were eligible. So not even a majority of them that hadn’t received the vaccination.

It's a key example of media scaremongering.

I would say it is also an example of certain Twitter people not just scaremongering but also try to stir up trouble

Not too sure its scaremongering. It's confirming hospitalizations are in the age range we would expect, it's not filling up with 20 year olds, if anything it's backing up that those under the range of vaccinations still need not worry, ie the risk it low.

The way they had been making out on the news it was that this new variant was ripping through the young, which was something I felt was scaremongering.

Look at the figures the increase in Bolton is in the younger groups, it is just that they are not ending up in hospital.

Wouldnbe interesting to see the actually hospital codes numbers to see how many it has increased by

Just looked at daily new hospitalisation for north west, couldn’t find Bolton quickly. Last figures released for 12th May was 17, day before 15. A week before that is was 18, then dropped and came back up. So not a massive change.

The fear is being driven by the media. I'm off out to watch the cup final and socialise a bit.

But it will be, won't it? Once people in Bolton and Blackburn start going in and out of each others' houses freely from Monday the numbers will multiply faster. There are bound to be family connections with Asian families in the poorly vaccinated areas of West Yorkshire. So before we know it, numbers will be climbing steeply in central Bradford and BRI will be rammed to the gunnels with Covid patients again.
As far as I'm concerned there should be local lockdowns in all of the hotspots, now, with essential travel only in and out, to limit the spread. But what will happen is nothing; then in a few weeks time when it's all over the place again, we'll all be plunged back into lockdown again.

Local lockdowns didn't work before. Why would they now?

And let's be honest, the people in these areas have hardly been rigidly sticking to the rules anyway. Whatever happens, happens. People know what they're doing and can make their own choices.

The COVID-19 Passports are scheduled to go live on the NHS app on Monday.

Exactly what they will be needed/used for remains a matter of some debate.

Yes, I'm sure they weren't. But opening further will make it worse.
It needs a travel ban to keep it from spreading wider.

Why would they comply with new restrictions if they aren't complying with the current ones?

Having spent time in the garden watching the FA cup final it got cold at 8pm so we all went inside. Something no doubt mirrored across the country, not to mention the Rangers fans in Glasgow. Only the most staunch rule observers are taking notice, I would guess that 75% of the UK have broken at least one lockdown rule in the last week.

How the hell do you know that?
Nearly everyone I know has observed the rules pretty closely. Just because you and your friends haven't doesn't mean everyone hasn't.
