The EU has done deals with the dodgy regimes you mention just as much as the UK has, Probably even more and will continue to do so

Of course it has. But it does so from a position of strength as the largest trading bloc on the planet. It is able to dictate terms. Whereas we, on our own, now have to suck up to nasty leaders like Modi in order to not get our arse handed to us on a plate.

With our leaving it will soon be overtaken as the largest trading block as it contracts, The future is in trading blocks we will soon be joining having our own better deals than the EU could ever do on our behalf which always favored France and Germany, Even its own members complain of the deals they do, The future is much more brighter out of the EU and even some of its own members are realising this,

And I said we have had different strains in the past and dealt with them, are you suggesting the Indian delegation started this Indian variant.

It was a Guardian report so it can be taken with a pinch of salt, how do they know they have not identified the carriers and have then in isolation as they did when it was found in London several weeks ago.

India only recently went on the red list in the last couple of weeks, so any carriers were here long before the Indian Delegation. However after putting India on the red list then inviting the delegation who were in personal meeting with Priti Patel earlier this week before having to isolate with positive test (I notice Priti Patel has been excluded form any isolation).

The Indian variant is likely to be redefined from a 'variant of interest' to the more worrying 'variant of concern'. That's when we should really find out whether our isolation approach is up to muster or not.

Yes that's all fair comment maybe they should take notice of their own advice.
With regards the Idian variant they are saying although there is concern over the Indian variant they feel the vaccine will give protection as it does with other variants.
I would assume the Idian delegation invitation to the G7 summit was offered months ago should we have cancel the invitation because of the new variant coming to light I'm not sure we should we should especially when we are In negotiations with regard a trade deal.

If today the government is going to announce a list of countries that people can holiday in after May 17th then we need to stop getting wound up over new variants otherwise the only thing to do is announce no countries and stay locked down indefinately.

Definitely. Whereas if we were in the EU we would be trying to agree partnerships with *check notes* erm, India.

I wasn't aiming the comment at you, i was speaking in general about those scared to death of new variants. I'm done with the social distancing and visit my parents and enter their houses all the time.

Watching the Hartlepool bye-election result announcement there was no social distancing and no masks, except the Tory, on the podium. Maybe Hartlepool are all clear?

Good on them. All those on the podium looked to be of an age where they have been offered the vaccine as it currently goes down to Age 40.

Whilst the headlines about this Indian variant may seem worrying, it is probably worth picking out part of the BBC's report about it:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57016110

If this report is accurate, then it suggests that the vaccines are still doing their job; the vaccines may not be quite as good at stopping people catching this variant, but they are stll preventing severe cases and death, even amongst those who are in the most vulnerable category.

Of course not. My posting of the Guardian clip was nothing to do with the Indian delegation. It was in response to your post saying that we'd identified the carriers and that it was all under control. The quotes from medical experts (not the Guardian's opinion) make it clear that the Indian variant is now transmitting in the community, so it clearly isn't under control.
It looks like the vaccines are currently preventing the Indian variant from causing severe illness and deaths. But the more widely it transmits the more chance it will mutate again, possibly into a strain that is more vaccine resistant, causing an upsurge in serious illness and deaths. This is why the totally laissez faire approach taken by some on here is misguided in my view. Yes, we need to cautiously open up society but not blindly imagine that this has just gone away. Complacency has seen big resurgences of the virus in various other countries.

Interesting how you dismiss anything from the Guardian yet are happy to quote other sources such as the Mail, which are equally, if not more biased in their reporting.

I'll try and dig it out mate, but if I do and its a comment from The Mail or The Telegraph is there any point in posting it, I think it was about 4/5 weeks ago and it was mostly in the London area and the government said they had tracked them down and they were in isolation.

Love the highlighted comment, ironically they have been proved correct in the majority of different variant so far, we put our faith in the people developing the vaccines ETC.

Some people are seemingly desperate for one of these variants to prove resistant to the vaccines and take hold. I assume so they can say "told you so" and have us all locked up back in our houses again. It's weird.

First it was the Brazil variant where there was panic and nothing happened, then the South African one where nothing happened, now we have the Indian one. Third time lucky eh! Weirdly enough the only variant that did actually cause issues was the one which seemingly developed on our own shores but of course that was before the vaccine.

The idea of "following the science" seems to have gone out the window. We should panic first and get evidence later by the looks of it. When a scientist tells us that a variant can get past the vaccines I'll be concerned, up until then what's the difference?

Genuine question, Is anyone still living in fear of the virus on here? If so why, don't you trust the effectiveness of the vaccine?

I'm ready to drop the masks, social distancing and get back to normal as I believe the risk has been reduced to a level that won't kill off many vulnerable people. We won't remove all deaths but we can't remove all deaths in anything.

Mentally after my first injection I felt better/safer although we've never broken the government's guidelines, then after the second I'm more than ready to face the world ;), I'd hope the social distancing is dropped soon but I'm happy to wear a make if that's a part of the easing once things start getting back to some sort of normality in June.
Ironically the grandson and I were watching the Man City game and he said if our season had gone down to the last game at Morecambe would we have gone, damned right we would along with a couple of thousand more, social distancing with a can in our hands singing us onto victory but alas it was never meant to be :(.
