Where has that come from? That will just be a nightmare, If the classification of a food based pub is "like a weatherpersons" then absolutely nobody will close.

I'd seen that the major of Liverpool was saying that restaurants will be allowed to stay open and that's bad enough but that classification will be nuts!

Ha!! Let's see what happens with that but IMO that's a disaster if they go down that route.

Do you live in an area that is about to be locked down under tier 3 like Liverpool?

It wasn't just Liverpool that thought they were getting locked down though did they? Pretty much everyone in Leeds thought hospitality in the North as a whole was shutting

The government has done this time and time again, leaked the info, seen everyone have one last hurrah and then closed down. Well everywhere except Bradford where it was tweeted at 10pm at night with immediate effect.

I'm not sure where the leaks were coming from this time though - especially if it's wrong. The more they discuss the impact with the local MPs, mayors, etc, the worse the leaks get.

The Bradford thing is a good point. Everyone complained that they've dropped things last minute at that point and then when they gave a larger lead in time for the new regulations it's seen as encouraging a last big blow out. Can't work both ways.

A little bit of it does seem to be the media guessing as to what will happen when they know an announcement is coming.

I live in Leeds and work in Bradford so yes, it wasn't just Liverpool was it?

Obviously happy that tier 3 is purely in Liverpool.

Very interesting about how many of the leaks were incorrect. Media guesses or simply clickbait?

Bit of a difference between the two though.
The Bradford ban on visiting other households was announced late on the Thursday evening immediately before Eid weekend celebrations. Many people would have expected to travel from other areas to be with their extended family the following morning; some would already have done so. Food would have been bought and prepared for large gatherings at the weekend, etc etc.
That's like the government announcing on the day before Christmas Eve that no one can go to their families for Christmas, after the big Christmas food shop has been done.

No doubt but which would we prefer? Immediate changes that take effect straight away or ones like today which give 3 days notice after consultation which leads to the increases possibility of leaks and misinformation.

It seems like people moan whichever way?

I think if you are deliberately curtailing a major religious/cultural festival (whether that is Eid, Diwali, Christmas or whatever) then you have to give some notice of that, to allow people to make alternative plans. In other circumstances I can't see the point of giving much notice - especially if the notice period spans a weekend, leading to big non socially distanced blowouts.

But hospital admissions were doubling every 3 days back then, and continued to rise, whereas now they have been flat since the 6th of October.

It said he is meeting leaders from north east and Yorkshire and Humber this week. Unsure on specific areas but don’t think Liverpool will be the only one

Exactly how I understood it did he actually confirm Liverpool would be first up either
Pretty certain Bradford/Leeds won't escape unscathed

Have a look at these. The government seems to have missed that new cases peaked a week ago or more. (Manchester peaked on Sept 30th.)

    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Leeds
    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Manchester
    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Liverpool
    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=ltla&areaName=Bradford

It actually looks like all of England has turned down now the student splurge has finished.

    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases?areaType=nation&areaName=England

Now last time I said it looked like was turning down two weeks ago, it indeed did for a couple of days, but then Boris found thousands of cases that had slipped down the back of the sofa. So, have cases turned down everywhere in England and Wales a week ago or not? Who knows!? I'd imagine Scousers won't be too happy when they see those numbers - plus plenty of other places facing more restrictoins when cases look to be falling.

Come on now. How many times are you going to say cases peaked a week ago?

    Lag!!

One day you're going to be right but that turn down at the end is simply timing, as shown over and over again.
