I got an email from Jet2 cancelling my holiday in June, they say I can rebook later in the year, but I’m not expecting to go this year at all, I’ll take the credit note and rebook for next year instead.

The point I’m making is they were supposed to be flying from the 30th April they have now said the 16th June when they hope to start again but there is no guarantees we are going to rebook for next year definitely not this

Park is right. Think about it Fordy - for a change ;-) This is a means to timebox refunds/rebookings in the immediate term and start trying to bring in revenue again. How can they possibly commit to a flight schedule at a time when no one knows when lockdown or travel restrictions will be lifted for this or other countries?

I'd be surpised at anyone booking a flight or holiday in the next 3-4 months unless there are VERY clear terms around getting your money back. And even then, I wouldn't bother unless you're able to wave your money goodbye.

No guarantees on anything at this moment but we are not going to be in this lockdown forever.

Cost 2.4 billion a day and the rest.

The airlines bring a lot to the economy and they will be in talks with the government and June would be the month in which a potential green light is given for them to go ahead and start flying again.

Other travel companies across the world are saying June also.

Rishi will have massive economy issues if everyone isn't back to work come June mate.

I'm not saying I agree with airlines flying again in June but I do believe the government has an exit plan but just don't want to tell the world yet because we need the 100k testing equipment.

Given how we've dealt with things so far and the state of the headbangers we actually have in govt atm, I don't think we will have an exit plan yet at all. It's only 3 weeks or so since we were meant to be taking this thing on the chin and cracking on.

I think it's caught us on the hop at every turn, Boris being the flippant kind of guy he is, will have batted away any kind of warnings in January (US intelligence was warning Trump at this point that this was gonna be a shit storm if they didnt prepare nd I highly doubt we weren't informed or aware in some capacity ourselves) thinking that we'd all be fine and just sort of wing it. Its right that at the moment we focus on getting through the worst of things, but there are some extremely serious questions that need to be asked of pretty much every tory govt since they got in. As I believe I may have posted prior, they have all (Cameron, May, Johnson) made decisions that have negatively impacted our readiness for a pandemic and ability to respond effectively.

The international travel and airline industries will surely be hit hardest and for longest. Logically, you'd have to assume that the gradual removal of restrictions will relax around international movement at the very last stage?

Or you’d hope at a point when we can test on arrival?

Good point. But that would need to be more than a temperature check.

Test on departure would make more sense otherwise anyone testing positive is already in a new country and has potentially infected others on the plane too.

I've no doubt that airports and airlines will be looking to change things.

They'll be talking to world leaders on how they can get operating again and I think strict rules like these will come in to play.

We've to remember they is no vaccine, so unless we end any form of domestic or international travel until we have one which I doubt the leaders will be looking to see how we get the airline industry moving again.

It's not as if Fordy Airlines can be built tomorrow or in the next 5 years. Owners of airlines are rare.

So please enlighten us and tell us what previous Labour governments did to prepare us for such a situation

Why is that always the response to a government criticism? It’s fair criticism. Labour have not been in for a looooong time. We were starting to see the effects of austerity before this pandemic.

Exactly, the Tories have had 10 years, anything that’s gone wrong, depending on your perspective of course, it’s them who take responsibility, and them only. They won’t have the EU to blame soon either.

I am not here to bash anyone as politics are a mess in this country anyway all across the board. But a constant defence is, what would labour do? It’s a poor deflection and one we would never ever know the answer to so it pointless.

We followed the wrong plan from the word go with the herd immunity and take it on the chin idea. It didn’t work and we moved quickly to lockdown which seems to be showing some positive results. Time to batten down the hatches for the next 6 weeks and see where we are but that doesn’t mean we made mistakes. Ironically the same mistakes America made and we are both in agreement with a lot of things. Sadly got this one wrong and recent history tells you we and Americans are getting a lot wrong

No, you would have seen a start to moving on from austerity with a promised massive spending spree until the plague struck the planet.....
