I would never of dreamt of doing this but some of the beliefs being expressed on here have driven me to it.

I am a registered and practicing healthcare professional in in the NHS. Alongside my clinical qualifications I have a post-graduate degree in health research (epidemiology).

I can categorically reassure everyone on here that Covid-19 exists, it is a mass killer, and is a major threat to the normal functioning of all the NHS. The main DEFENCE against COVID death and ill health is VACCINATION. Stats also strongly indicate that being VACCINATED is the best DEFENCE against TRANSMISSION.

I have mixed views on the Government policy and lockdown easing at the current pace, but without continued up-take of VACCINATION and a sensible return to social life/ distancing, I predict we will all be back to watching City on I-follow before the nights draw in.

China built several emergency hospitals. Italy, Spain, France, S Korea, Iran, parts of the USA and many more civilised first world countries are in almost total lockdown. Unprecedented financial packages from our and other governments to hopefully save society as we know it. Exams cancelled for the first time ever. EVER. Sport gone. Soap operas gone. Cinema gone. West end shows gone. Pubs shut, restaurants shut. Could go on.

But abbomf in Bradford thinks it's an overreaction.

My wife’s horrible, arsey, jumped up friend was supposed to be coming round tomorrow - I’ve insisted that she cancels and doesn’t break the law.
Her friend with the decent rack is still allowed to come though.

Whilst on the topic, someone posted a letter on a Brighouse facebook page thanking a Sainsburys member of staff for the way she was dealt with whilst having a bit of a panic attack at the tills, not realising it was my wife who was the member of staff. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things when people are dying but meant a lot to my wife after being verbally abused on regular ocassions over the last wek or so.

    Bit of personal information.

I'm 49 years old, I have diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. If I was to get coronavirus, I have a significantly above average chance of it having a serious impact on my health. Without being too dramatic, it is conceivable it may cost my life. That is the reality. At the least, I don't want to have to receive hospital treatment while they are under so much pressure.

In my classroom, I have to handle the kids books constantly (handing them out and collecting them). I have to touch their ipads constantly, as they forget their log ons or they lose connection and it cannot be fixed. Social Distancing does not exist between the children.

I also work in an area of high deprivation, where children that I teach need the structure of school. They are witnessing domestic violence, alcohol misuse, drug misuse and coping with adults who honestly are not fit to parent. I've had notifications of things that have happened over Christmas that make me want to cry. These children need to be in school.

I also work in an area where social distancing is negligible and the virus is rife.

I'm totally torn. We know that the new strain of the virus is affecting children more and its much more transmissible.

As a family, we also have caring responsibilities for elderly parents that makes any contraction of the disease very problematic.

Of course there are many other professions facing risks. But, not many are in the position of having to be close to potential virus carriers with no PPE. Wearing PPE in the classroom just isn't viable.

Look at your lounge. Double or triple in size. Would you want to spend seven hours in there, with no masks being worn, with 30 random strangers who you suspect have not been socially distancing?

That is my thinking and probably that of tens of thousands of primary school staff tonight. Especially those in Tier 4, as I am.

Personally, I want schools to close for all but key workers and vulnerable children. As I did before the summer, I'm happy to work with ten or so children in a much more controlled environment in school.

The virus doesn't frighten me, it's humans that frighten me. Some of the things I've seen through this saga has left me convinced humans will eventually wipe themselves out through sheer stupidity.

Well more fool you! You need to start behaving more responsibly to protect yourself and your loved ones and acting as a responsible member of society. The same comment applies to the other idiots in MaccyD's and those floods of people who decided to visit Malham Cove en masse and some of the east coast resorts. It's as though people believe that they are both immune to the virus and have no responsibilties to themselves or to others. It's unbelievable how some so-called intelligent members of our society are acting at the mo. It demonstrates clearly that the Govt's 'advisory' strategy isn't working and this advisory approach needs to evolve onto the mandatory stage for all gathering places where the irresponsible and idiotic can congregate in an uncontrollable way.

    Good.

Shows most people are more normal than I feared.

I didn't vote for Boris and wouldn't vote for many of his policies, I don't like quite a few things about the way he behaves and handles his business, but I hope he makes a full and swift recovery and gets back to doing what he was elected to do.

Its why I personally can't connect with the whole 'clap for the NHS' idea. There's a narcissism to it all - lets clap, but lets make sure we film it and stick it on social media so everyone can see what a thoroughly nice person I am. And now other groups are out to out-do each either. The amount of 'me me me' stuff I've seen for things like 'I'm a key worker too, i'm stacking the shelves of a supermarket, where's my clap'. And yes, there are people who're just cracking on to keep society alive - respect is due. But its the one-upmanship that gets me.

I'm supporting and appreciating the NHS by abiding by the lockdown rules, properly and stringently. That vid further up of masses of people, closely congregating to 'clap the NHS' is mindboggling.

A little nervous, but yesterday I volunteered for the COVID-19 vaccine trials held in London . The vaccine is one that was created in Russia. I received my first shot this morning at 7:00 am, and I wanted to let you all know that it’s completely safe, with иo side effects whatsoeveя, and that I feelshκι χoρoshό я чувствую себя немного странно и я думаю, что вытащил ослиные уши.

I've sent text, Emails etc but no response from Chris so sadly no updates.
I believe us oldies get the message the government are telling us possibly more than the younger end, unfortunatly we realise if we get this and also have other underlying conditions it could spell the end, fortunately I have no underlying conditions so I hope to be challenging your posts for a while yet ;).

Surely it's better to follow the advice just in case though?

I'm a 34 year old male who is in good health, COVID-19 won't affect me much at all if I get it, I might not even know I've got it. It's who I may infect that is the issue, and then those who I've infected infect, and so on and so on. Me infecting Joe Bloggs on the bus may result in Arthur and Edna from Leeds dying from the virus.

As a result I'm keeping myself and my family as isolated as possible. I still need to go to work, but I'm ensuring I touch very little and wash my hands as much as possible.

The 'rules' can't make a provision for every possible scenario. The underlying principle couldn't really be any clearer - avoid all unnecessary movements outside of your home and when you do need to go out, maintain 2m distance from anyone else. If you have any symptoms however mild, you stay home for 7 days if you live alone. If you live with others, you all stay home for 14 days.

People need to be grown ups and make responsible decisions for the greater good, not expect the government to spell out every action they're expected to take.

Actually, I WAS taking the piss. I thought it was obvious tbh, but either i’m losing my touch, or everyone really is losing their grip on reality.

Grass collections, school attendances, MOTs. Who gives a sh*t about any of that right now.

My point was basically that people need to adopt more responsibility for their own decisions and movements on the basis of the wider social need, and in the context of the biggest problem this country has faced since WW2 - not expect the government to make a provision every possible circumstance in the lives of 60m+ people.

It's stuff like this that has made me glad I don't read main stream media anymore. Stopped with the TV after the constant obsession with death rates, I swear theyre one step away from a drum roll before they announce it. Photos in the media of empty shelves, people fighting over toilet rolls etc, let's be honest the media are loving this they can't get enough of it.

    Address this point by point.

Is it any wonder people treat them like pantomime characters the way they behave in the House of Commons? Booing, hissing, jeering is very common practice in there. See the recent clips republished of them cheering when they managed to keep the nurses salary down or reduced the benefits to the vulnerable people they are so keen to protect now.

The tabloid media exists for us, because of us. We lap it up. We love it. It's like slowing down to look at a car crash or watching 2 tramps fight. We love it. They provide it.

Everyone makes mistakes that's true but the politicians have the power to do great good for us all but they don't. They look after themselves, their mates and people who's ancestors killed our ancestors in the past to claim titles. There is a war chest full of money. They spend it on wars.

Finally, I hope Boris a speedy recovery despite the fact that I despise him greatly. A racist, misogynistic, deceitful, devious, brash, sly bully. Makes you proud to be British.

I haven’t clapped once, and I don’t intend to, I think it’s virtue signalling bollocks, I don’t need to make a noise on my doorstep to show my appreciation. Also, that care badge is a terrible idea, it’s lazy propaganda that diverts attention from the real issues.

I must be an extremist too.
