I know the general cost of everything has increased but does any of the regular "coach" travellers feel the cost of away travel is getting out of hand?

I often look at the cost, and despite the inconvenience I just think I'll drive myself.

Between £26-£30 for Nottingham seems a lot and the coach travel companies must be making a killing at £1800 a time for a journey of that type, I've seen quotes of £20 to Rochdale previously, bonkers if there is more than one of you

Don’t forget the CAZ charge for the coach too

The Supporters groups who organise the travel are barely breaking even atm. Most away games they're making a small loss.

Is that because they run with half full coaches too often or is it because the prices are too low?

The cost of travel is on par with what you would see elsewhere. Take for example Bingley Bantams to Swindon. £40.

It is almost impossible to get a train there, and if you find one good luck in finding one under £75.

Driving to Swindon, it's a 400 mile round trip, say you got mileage of 40 MPG, that 10 Gallons of fuel at about £6 a gallon. So you are looking at a cost of £60 in an average car. So if you have 3 in the car paying £20 each you are fine but if you are thinking of going on your own the Coach probably trumps it.

Even the Train to Doncaster is about £24 day return. I guess you could jump through hoops to reduce that slighly but the coach there will be about £20.

Coach travel all be it expensive is still cheaper than most other modes of transport unless you have a car and 4/5 people willing to chip in to share the cost.

Coach prices are increasing. Also yes sometimes it's hard to get people to go on coaches. The no drinking law probably impacts it too.

Yeah, I think if you were allowed a few beers on a bus that may convince a few to use them rather than the usually over priced trains.

I get some of what you are saying @Edin Nowhere@Edin Nowhere and take in the fact Swindon is probably reasonable.

On the face of it, £25 or so to Donny again like you say on a par with other public transport but when you have 60 people on a single coach paying that, then coach hire to Donny seems very excessive.

Limited Petrol, only one driver required, no need to stop off etc, 60 x £25 equals £1500 surely the coach company are having supporters club pants down at those prices? I know im missing the yeah but insurance, parking, initial cost of buying the coach etc, it all seems a little too much.

I always remember going on coaches as a kid and even as a (fairly) young adult and it always seemed reasonable ,even without Geoffrey's subsidies.
