No wonder there so many coffee shops about. Can't believe how many people will hand over the best part of three quid for something that costs about 20p to make. people who own places like Costa must be pissing themselves, like printing money.

 

...and it’s bloody disgusting.

 

That's a question of taste. I think a flat white at Costa is lovely.

Unless you have the option of going home and making it yourself then what choice is there? At least the standard of the coffee is pretty decent in these places. Before Costa, Starbucks et al arrived here the coffee in most British cafes was usually pretty dire. I'd rather pay three quid for a decent cup of freshly ground coffee than two quid for a cup of instant muck, which was the standard offering before they arrived.

 

The amount of people who frequent these coffee shops and use costa machines in service stations tells me things aren’t as bad in this country as some make out but thats for another time....

 

You could say that about almost anything made - food, clothes, trainers, cars - ok the mark up % are all different but the profit is obviously why they do what they do.

the mark up reminds me of the mark up on stuff in pubs when I used to run one

 

Soft drinks must be a big one. The price of pop is ridiculous, it's cheaper to drink beer.

Unfortunately the courts didn't see it that way when my 9 year old was arrested for drunken disorderly.

 

yep the Pepsi out of the dispenser cost about 3p for a pint. Overall we were hitting just below 70% mark up on drinks and 80% on food, total was around 76%. Yep there was all the running costs to pay but it shows what the difference is

 

Did you have the old syrup style boxes too where you could actually the amount of pepsi etc that went into the drink enabling some buggers to get even more out of it

 

I dont understand how non of the venders sell chips. Must be one of the cheapest and easiest things to prepare, and likely one of the bloody easiest to sell

 

And the biggest fire risk especially in enclosed areas with oil that is rarely used

It's a German Älter Weinbrand and is very nice indeed. The only place I know to get it from is Saltaire Wines... about £22 for 0.7 litre bottle.

 

I think one of the kiosks in the kop sells chips.

Yep and those that the two young lads sat in front of me had smelt bloody gorgeous as I was sat there freezing my gonads off!!

 

I mustnt be looking hard enough, tried first outlet in both upper and lower kop and neither stock chips.
