Unfortunately McCall's City teams have always lacked character/leadership and have had a habit of collapsing like a pack of cards.

The only side that didn't was in 16/17 when we still had the remnants of Parkinson's side.

 

Players arent daft they will see what we see probably even more.

How many of us now are looking at that squad thinking this lot will finish no better than 10th, I bet its a good percentage.

A player or scout will surely do the same and see the same holes in it that we do.

How do you convince a L1 striker or a player who thinks he's an L1 striker to sign for a team destined for the bottom half of league 2?

Donaldson and vaughan likely signed last year as they thought last years squad was guaranteed promotion, at the very least top 6. Players will drop a division if they think promotion is realistic, a season in the khazi might even improve their value if they knock in 25 goals and get them a big deal elsewhere (see doyle) in the future.

They quickly lose interest when we are scratting around mid table with the likes of cambridge and morecambe

 

Spot on. The city's a shit hole - yes there's Leeds nearby, but its more expensive and 4th division footballers aren't generally rolling in cash. We have no credible plan for improvement or growth, no leadership at the top, recent years have massively damaged our credibility. We're a directionless club, with no real ambition.

Clubs reputations can be tarnished very quickly. Word gets around. 'Bradford? circus mate, stay well clear'. That's what Rupp and Rahic have done. And its hard to shake.

 

Yer, I agree on the lack of leadership still and it concerns me.

I like a manager who know his captain, maybe even signs a captain to come in when he does. Stuart saw how it was last season and saw the lack of leadership and hasn't addressed it at all. Having O'Donnell as the captain was not a good shout, just choosing one of the lads in the dressing room already.

He needed to bring in a relatively experienced pro even if it was someone that perhaps was in their latter years because their experience would carry them on even if they weren't at the top of their game as a defender or midfielder any more.

My concern is that the lack of leadership will mean we'll have a few more games like tonight because there's no fight or spirit in the senior pros in this lot. So yes we'll win some games and be competitive in others but when it goes wrong it will just fall apart

 

Players will look at us and think, why was Doyle desperate to get away? Why was Vaughan desperate to get away?

If you're a striker looking at our squad, where are your goals coming from?

We're just on such a downer, the place needs a massive lift somehow.

If you think the problems at this club are pretty much down to the manager, which you allude to in pretty much every post, then you are deluded. The recruitment of McCall for the third time will always be open to discussion as to the various pros and cons, but if you're so aggrieved at his appointment then the answer to the problem you are looking at is slapping you in the face. Who employed him and why? Stop wasting all your energy berating McCall and you'll see where the problems lie.

 

L1 maybe?

 

We don't have a unique selling point currently. Any player or agent can look at the last 5 years of this club and be informed. Manager turnover, player turnover etc. and of course players talk to each-other, like you do in any other line of work.

A large crowd might be an enticement for some but that's out the window for at least the next few months and it ultimately does not effect a players bottom line.

Again on the information front, it's all available. Who owns us, whats the level of interest and finance, facilities,training and medical, living in Bradford/Leeds/Harrogate/shipley glen canal.

No player just looks at a wage and says yes.

 

I said this in an earlier thread this morning. What have we got to attract players here? A big crowd? That may work for the odd few but not many. Aside from that, this football club has no selling points to players.

 

You'd think plenty would want to come to us if the worst we're going to finish is 9th.

Seriously though? We aren't an attractive option because the club is an absolute basket case and has been for a while now.

 

Facilities? Style of play? Successful managers? Ambitions on and off the pitch? Higher level of football?

And regardless of the cap, we could offer 3k p/w and another club 5k p/w and the player chooses the latter offer. The cap is overall not set on an individual's wages.

 

Without doubt it was a shocking performance and result but I think it was a fair reply, up to the Lincoln we were never looked like getting beat in any of the 3 previous games a steady start to a new season, we all agreed our attacking options need to improve but I'm with @Burlington Bertie Park Bantam, it was a poor show but some of the stuff that's being posted is way over the top.

 

I hope Guthrie does. I imagine he p1ssed himself at your 1 goal every 2 games nonsense.

 

I think we need to take the Kamara approach to signings. Get some Johnny Foreigner signed up who thinks any city in the UK is like something from Heartbeat or TOWIE, the streets are paved with gold, and all the football is like the Premier League. Should get a few through the doors by Saturday.
