Magically the proper manager has a better midfield? Or will he also need to strengthen that area in Jan?

That Bolton game has as much significance a six a side at Marley. Less, actually, because at Marley the game is the most important one they'll play that week

Nope but he can make it stronger by playing the right players there. It's not rocket science to start either Cooke or AOC alongside Palmer. The new manager wouldn't of given new deals to Devine and Anderson neither LOOOL I think Pritchard played CM at Blackpool also. It's not rocket science to bring your subs on earlier neither and make sure they are the right ones.

You could argue that a different manager might have used some of his budget on bringing in a better midfield rather than keeping Anderson and Devine.

Cheer up, remember how you felt after City were beaten by 4-1 by Exeter in March 2013. There was no way we would be promoted!

When he signed those players, his budget was limited because we had Doyle and Scannell earning mega wages.

What amazes me from the "professional footballers" of ours, The ball drops out of the air and they have acres of space and they just volley the ball first time up the pitch time after time. I was taught to play football a different way and was encouraged to get the ball down at every opportunity. Just swinging boots at it none of the defenders or midfielders want the responsibility of having the ball. I'd have been dragged off for some of hit and hopes I was seeing last night. Knock it in to the corners and run after it. Not even Sunday league. I don't expect tika taka but a bit of composure and possession wouldn't go a miss. The possession stats have been poor all season needs to vastly improve if we are going for promotion. Think if you are going to play dinosaur/dark age football you have to get the results. Bowyer isn't and fans will turn with no entertainment and no results.

It was a poor miss Dave
I may get pelters for this but a player of his calibre & experience
should be tearing this league apart i know the service he gets leaves a lot
to be desired 3 goals in 9 matches especially at this level
    is not what i expected

Bang on. We're 9 games in and I've got no idea what our style of play is either.

The full backs are driving me insane. Don't overlap so the wingers are allowed to be doubled up on time after time. Pritchard has a good delivery but can't beat a man so Wood needs to be on his outside overlapping to give him space to get his crosses in. Mellor just stops as soon as he releases the ball and his throws aren't even that long. Really static and predictable,. No control or fluidity in our team. Just never feel like we are going to score as we are so easy to defend against.

Your not wrong; we had absolutely no composure on the ball until Cooke came on late. Palmer had little snippets through the game where he held; turned and got a ball out to someone. But the rest of it was all undisciplined and as you say "hit and hope". Nobody really wanted to get on the ball; I can tell you the possession % was 34-66 against and I do not need to look that up. It was easy to see. Donaldson kind of epitomizes the "crash bang wallop" of it all when he half connects with a ball launched aimlessly up to him. Fails (as I constantly expect) to properly control it; falls over his feet as he slices the ball anywhere but in the direction of the goal ?. Their keeper had hardly anything to do compared with ROD who was undoubtedly our MOM. We started to get the ball down with Cooke/Ishmail on the pitch and some balls into the box but then Bowyer had already subbed The Don ?. Plain as the nose on your face; that this is not going to be entertaining this season. Having to literally negate the midfield because there isn't one !? and just constantly careering around the pitch giving needless free kicks away ?; miss timing the ball ?; slicing shot + passes ?; ridiculous punts forward ? In a word "undisciplined". We should be going out there at this level with the opposition literally quaking in there boots playing us ; but they can fear not if we turn in disjointed performances like much of last nights match was.

We are starting to see our style develop. We get overrun in midfield constantly because we are currently picking from a pool of central midfield options that contains Devine, Anderson and Akpan!

January cannot come quick enough, nor can Cooke reaching full fitness.

Desperate for January after a full preseason of recruiting on top of managing the side for a quarter of last season too. Christ, the abysmal midfield is not something we haven’t known about since last season yet Bowyer choose to go with Anderson and Devine who’s track records here were dire, even Akpan was a GB signing for Blackburn so add that to his list of horrific centre mids deemed good enough.

Are you suggesting that was a bad value signing?

    No.

You said his budget was limited due to Doyle & Scannell yet can still sign Vaughan. Therefore could of easily got a decent central midfielder.
