I wish him well like most of our former players, but my point about Vernam has always been about lack of consistency and the inability to perform on heavy grounds. He looked good at the end of the season but it was no coincidence that it was one of the driest Aprils for a long time. I'd guess he'll make a decent start at Lincoln and then either get injured or dropped by October. We'll see.

Correct. I think if you look over his career it would be fair to question whether he really believes himself all the time, i.e. if he had James Milner's attitude - he'd be playing in The Championship.
I do think Hughes would have got that side working better and he'd be a far better player and so I believe he's making a mistake going to Lincoln.Damo likes this. -
If Hughes can now get him, then he's a valid replacement.
Or Hughes, might not fancy him and has got better in mind.
Either way, I'm cool with it all.Damo likes this. -
So he could have learnt so much more from Hughes and even had a clause that said he went in January if there was interest from L1 or above.
Instead, he's gone to club that's gone down our very successful 2018/19 policy of undermining a good manager (i.e. Appleton) and then replacing him with an unknown of not great pedigree.
Vernham needs a strong manager - almost like a father figure. Hughes would have done that.Bronco likes this. -

Vernam was a good player. A very good player for this level. Hughes could of helped him realise his best potential. But it is what it is. He now has a chance to showcase his abilities for his hometown club in a League above. Best of luck to him.
No need for people on here to get salty about it. Its just the way football is. Yes he was the type of player a team like us needs, but there is no reason for us to not be able to find better players to replace him with. Whether they happen to be permanent transfers, or a loanBronco likes this. -

I wish him all the best, on his day a good 4th tier player, shows how bad we are that some on here think this is a disaster.
For 75% of his City tenure he was Meh, played well under Hughes at the end of the season, against teams with nothing to play for on nice fast pitches. Not good enough for me if we’re looking at a top 3 finish.
Enjoy Lincoln Charles, hopefully see you in L1 the season after next!Keefly Bantam likes this. -

Good luck to Vernam. Lincoln have signed two of our better players from last season. But we did finish 14th in L2. Vernam showed flashes of brilliance but overall possibly due to injury and appalling management his time here was average. I’m not gutted by this. It’s a blow but doesn’t feel catastrophic.
