If you can find someone who's saying Vernahm's a "bang average League 2 footballer" then I'd agree with you.

What some of our saying is that it is not some kind of devastating loss. Some seem to imply that he's irreplaceable without spending big. Well as we would have had to pay him "big" and clearly would have been prepared to do so, then it means that he is replaceable.

I find it hard to get concerned about any of the players who have been here for a season or more - given where we've ended up in both those seasons.

I do question really has it for the big matches. Significant, he played better when the season was over - although in fairness Hughes will have been a big factor also.

But good luck to him. He's certainly been one of our better players of recent seasons.

I don't get it, the poster in question is known for bigging up pretty much every player we've got but a player bettering himself is just 'average' and won't be a great loss. Baffling

Big if. It's not really a risk on their part. I'd love it, if Freddy Jeffreys was given a chance. If we get Pereria for the season he will create more than Vernham. If sides close up shop against us Vernham becomes less of a threat

I bet if I go back through our recent signings you have bigged up every one of them. I can't get excited about resigning players like Hendrie, Sutton and Angol then pretend I'm fine with Vernam leaving. I'm not, he would have thrived next season and as it stands we have no real replacement for him yet.

Perierra didn't create one assist in the games he played.

Would loved to have kept Vernam but we only saw the best of him in the last 4 matches playing for a move? He disappeared for parts of games. But at the top of his game he was good. But I wonder want their fans think of signing players from a “bang average league two side”

Pereria will come back here and I literally couldn’t care a less. Players like him are ten a penny in clubs U23s. He got 1 goal and 1 assist in 10 games. Meh.

In Hughes side next year, Periera will more of a threat than Vernham. I really wanted him to say but its not the doom and gloom it might be if Periera signs and so does Watt. And in all honesty why spend time worrying about something we could do very little to prevent

So now I'm some kind of lightweight hypocrite who changes their mind depending on the weather? You do get so overtly emotional when we have these discussions.

I've never been one of those who's been entirely convinced by Vernham - as I said, because we've been spoilt by so many better wingers during the last 10 years.

I actually got tons of abuse for defending Adams dropping him and not Gilliead for that Swindon match - so I've been consistent. I like Vernahm - but no, I'm not convinced that when the pressure is on in a promotion race, if he has it mentally.

We're barely half way through June yet, you've already written off the signings!! I also remember plenty writing off Vernham when. he joined 17 months ago .

Plenty of clubs lose their better players and move on positively.

I would very much liked to have signed Pereria instead of Vernam

Although Vernam’s a very good winger for this level, at league 2 a well run club should be able to replace such a player. I suppose that’s where the risk is with us, not so much that we have lost him but who will he be replaced with. Only time will tell, I’m dubious due to our record since Rupp took ownership.

Had we not regressed like we have, then we’d never have signed a player like Vernam let alone losing him to a bottom end league 1 club. Just another blot against the running of the club. Come on now City, give us some positive news and let’s actually start moving in the right direction for the first time under this ownership. I have no ill feeling to those that have left, but if in a years time they regret not staying then it’ll finally mean we have got our act together. Suppose all we can do is wait and see, let’s hope the positive turnaround starts tonight.

Overly emotional? I'm just pulling you for your hypocrisy. I actually find it amusing. I for one will miss not being able to see a quality player get a chance under a quality player as opposed to Derek Adams, ironically another who you backed until it was too late. I wouldn't be a betting man if I was you the amount of times you back the wrong horse.

And of course they couldn't be players that with say better coaching can't be improved I suppose?

No, Let's write them off, eh?

I bet you were doing cartwheels when Vernham arrived on 31st January 21st having lasted just half a season with Burton side that were rock bottom of the L1 table and seven points adrift. Or is it that different, because he worked out well? If so can you concede that these others might work also, work out well.

I haven't been a hypocrite. Please point out where I've acted against a way I've previously stated.

You seem to think someone's a hypocrite if they are fine with a player leaving and accepts a lesser one.

What's that all about??!!! All that is, is a fan thinking that the club will be fine - because we're barely a third of the way through the transfer window.

In 12-13 Thompson got 9 goal contributions in 41 league games and the next season he got 5 in 44.
Mark Marshall in his first season here albeit in league 1 got 2 assists and zero goals.
Vernams stats hold up against these “great wide men” we’ve had over the last decade.

I think we should all respect each other's views, Roger, without going overboard about it. Some, like you, think Vernam is a great loss. Others, like me and for reasons I've explained pretty clearly on here in recent times, disagree. I think we should all keep a keen eye on how our former players get on at their new clubs and perhaps revisit the discussion at a later date. All that matters now is how well MH can mould new players and old into a successful side and I, for one, am optimistic that he can do that very well.
And, by the way, I'm most certainly not stupid.

Yes. There's still a lack of trust. So certain are some that he won't be replaced, you'd think the transfer window had ended.

I get it. Let's be honest we've had easily 8 bad transfer windows out of the last 10, but I think we can't always let the past dictate the future.

Just been looking at Vernam's career. Started at Derby as 19 year old but never played for them. Loaned out three times. Transferred to Grimsby who also loaned him out to Chorley. Left Grimsby after 2 years and joined Burton. Only made 14 appearances and then joined us. Not too impressive in my opinion.
