He was great away to Sutton. Good luck to him and Paudie, hopefully we can improve on them both.

That sucks, it was expected but it still sucks. He was a good winger for this division and it'll be hard to enough to replace him with let alone improve on him.

I’m not sure we can replace him without slashing the cash. He had a goal contribution nearly every other game which at our level for a winger are very good numbers. If Lincoln can keep him fit and play to his strengths then he should do well there. His pace and positioning sense is a threat and he will be missed here. He’s the one from the 3 that I thought was imperative to keep hold of.

We've proved to be very good at slashing the cash. ;)

I've read some stating they ain't bothered about leaving, that he was only good at the end of the season. Jesus, if folk can't understand why that was they should go and take up a different hobby, Adams at times didn't even play him, it was the football style of Hughes that was showing us the sort of player we thought we'd signed from Button. Anyone who thinks it's no great loss are just stupid.

I'm amazed by the comments about a bang average League 2 player who's already failed in League 1. Let's see how he's doing by Christmas, Paudie too for that matter. Watt, another rejected by a higher club and who's hardly pulled up any trees for two League 2 clubs. I don't know why people can't see that, even by League 2 standards, these aren't very good players. We need much better to get promoted.
PS I'd be very worried if I was a Lincoln fan. I can see them getting relegated this season.

I don't agree that he will be hard to replace. Granted, he was superb under Hughes - but he was as responsible as anyone for the, at times, early season wrong / inconsistent decision making etc.

If he was that good, he'd have taken all those games by the scruff of the neck, i.e. like Reid did in L1 when we got promoted and started to struggle, just before his bad knee injury.

During the past 10 years, we've been fortunate to have some great wide men. For instance, I think that Garry Thompson walks all over Vernham, at this level, for panache and game dominance.

I also think that Pereira with a good pre-season and Hughes's know how would be a better bet. He's apparently keen to rejoin - whether Luton will let him, is of course another question

    A little harsh.

But I have been perplexed by the Vernham and Paudie 'love in', whilst Watt gets more criticism than praise - when he's the one who's got the best potential.

mid a club is run in the right manner then it should help greatly but sadly some just can’t get a grip of it :( we should be easily have the biggest budget nobody at this level should be able to compete with us sadly it only takes a few loons to make a real mess of it

In fairness, Adams once dropped him and we went and won 3-0 at Swindon.

He was good, but we've had far better wingers at this level.

And if he's as great as some make out, it wouldn't make a difference who the manager is - he would be dominating 90% of the matches for 90% of playtime - instead of 70% for 60%. It's easy to blame the manager and say he's not getting the best out of him - just ask Paul Pogba.

I think we got carried away, because when he was in the flow - he was the only good creative outlet we got.

Plus of course, he did end the season well.

12 goal contributions in 28 games… for a winger in what was mainly a season managed by Derek Adams then I’d say they are very good numbers and will be hard to replace.
He was our second highest goal contributor after Cook by 3 and didn’t get anywhere near playing a full season. We will miss him without a doubt.

Yet a league one side deems him good enough to take a punt on. I guess Lincoln are wrong then

Unless our budget was 2 or 3 times everyone else's, it's going to make no difference in L2.

It's about the managers and the style they think they need to get success at this level and then committing to it. That's why Sutton nearly got automatic promotion and ended above Salford and Tranmere. Cambridge and Cheltenham are now both successful L1 teams, but didn't have big budgets to get out of here.

No. I've said his end of season form was great. I disagree with mood from some that this is some kind of devastating blow and he can't be replaced, without busting the bank.

To me, it was far more important than Walker stayed.

Of course we'd be better off with Vernham - but that doesn't mean he was as great as some imply.

He scored 8 in 33 last season - no idea where this 12 in 28 had come from - see below

    https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=96011

And he often played as a third attacker and in fairness to Adams he gave him license to roam.

Amazing how some on here wax lyrical about us giving new contracts to bang average league 2 players but when Lincoln from a league above sign one of our better players they are apparently just signing a bang average league 2 footballer. Flawed logic at its best

Yet happy with players that Swindon, FGR and Walsall weren’t bothered about keeping hold of.
Players they will probably never heard of prior to us signing them.

We don't have any player that can't be replaced, we are just a bang average league 2 football club.
But if you can't see what a fully firing Vernam would have brought to this side next season under Hughes then I can't help you. It's wierd how the signings we've made so far bar Walker are just run of the mill league 2 players yet a player going up.a division is just 'average'? That makes no logical sense. I bet if we'd just signed Vernam you'd be all over it like a cheap suit.
