This is laughable. A new training complex will not improve our chances of survival in the Championship if we go up.
Everyone wants us to progress and to see the Championship so soon after being in the doldrums of league 2 for so long is a dream.
But let’s be realistic, our highest paid player is on around 5k a week and that’s just 1 player.
To have any chance of survival we’d probably need to have half the starting XI on well over 10k a week possibly 20k.
Who’s funding that? The ground is already full every week so can’t increase income from ST’s unless they increase massively or we build new stands.
Let’s face it, the likelihood of us finishing even as high as 4th bottom is slim but absolutely we should go for it and if we are a yo-yo club like Posh and Rotherham then so be it.

I'm ready. Irrespective of training ground, funding of championship football, is love the taste of championship football especially after drab away games at Bromley etc al

The funding would have to come from outside sources such as investment and sponsorship much the same as every other club at that level.

Anything that contains the word Bradford sends investors running for the hills.
Why else would a Championship ready club with a fanbase to match struggle to find these investors you speak of?
Sponsorship will increase as will TV revenue but it’s still not enough unless the club is sold to someone willing to invest / lose millions then sadly it’s inevitable we don’t stay up.
Doesn’t stop us still wanting it though.

I mean, the additional £11m we would receive in solidarity payments would help. Add that to our existing revenue stream and then add some.

Financially speaking, we won’t be bottom end of that table.

Fair enough. Still a tall order and will need players punching well above their weight.

It’s still probably a long shot getting promoted to the championship this season but if the chance comes we’ve got to take it even though it would be a real struggle just to win the odd game in the championship. We’ve suffered so long in league 2 so it’s a real joy to see us challenging for the championship. Suspect we’d be a Rotherham or Barnsley though if we made it.

All existing Championship clubs receive the additional solidarity payments, the additional broadcasting income, the higher matchday crowds, the increased ticket prices, the increased sponsorship and advertising, etc and every clubs still makes an operating loss despite those extra revenues. Most of the current losses are in double digits which their owners finance. A couple of clubs every season try to do it better and cheaper and make modest losses - say £2-4mill per season - but they don't last long as a Championship club. That's the reality of Championship football finances. Are you expecting Stefan to dig even deeper into his pockets to fund these losses to create an established Championship club?

Think it is too early but if it is there, we have to go for it. We don't have the wealth of Wrexham so how on earth can we bring in 15 or so Championship players just to stay in the division. Watched Middlesbro v Ipswich last week and thought the gap massive(top end, I know). If we continue to have a good season, we will have to see if anything develops. Interesting, we appear to be courting sources in the US.

There's no such thing as too early, what a complete load of bollox. I remember in 2013/14 we had something like 20 points from 10/11 games. A mate of mine said it is too soon to get promoted. Well, we never did. If we get the opportunity, we have to grab it with both hands. Should we get promoted this season, or in 5 years we would need a large player turnover to do anything. It's just the nature of football. My boss is a season ticket holder at Sunderland, they had to change their team completely, it's what you do when you go up.

As long as it's a genuine mega-rich English football fan and not some un-knowledgeable real estate mogul or whatever, just looking for a new toy to show off to his associates.

    Couldn’t agree more.
    Too early my arse
Why do some fans have such a fear of early progress.
    Of course we might struggle.
The gap in quality (and more importantly finances) from league 1 to league 2 will seem tiny compared to the gap from league 1 to championship but that shouldn’t deter the club from giving it a right good go.

If it happens this season it will be unbelievable and the owner will have a massive decision to make.

Better that than just treading water for a few seasons.

Agree, if we can, we have to grab it but as we are, I think we have 3 players who will play in that division tho there is a good chance we will strengthen in Jan. If we managed promotion, required investment will be massive. We don't know the situation behind the scenes, Herr Rupp now says that the club is not for sale but we know that not long ago he was willing to sell us at a price and that Mr Baldwin had a buyer lined up but advised them that the price was too high. The club is now in a good position but to keep or improve our corporate support, we have to continue showing our ability for advancement. As long as we can do that, the club will be attractive so the investment required is not just a pipe dream.

So the word sustainability doesn’t exist in the Championship?
We have to be prepared to overspend just to survive? Or, if we go up, spend minimally, let the promoted team have a go, get relegated and use the banked money to buy VP?

'Sustainability' as we've experienced it doesn't feature one jot in the Championship. There are plenty of wealthy owners who are willing to put their own dosh into their club in the mere hope of reaching the land of milk and honey. Whether it's regarded as over spending or not, it takes a lot of money to first build a squad and then pay its wages each season to develop a club which is capable of becoming established in the Championship.

Our best hope imo is that we do get into the Championship and waiting in the wings is a potential buyer with deep pockets who will buy the club as a stepping stone to something even bigger.
