Need a better academy, under 23 squad and our own training ground to compete in the Championship.

Where did we train last time we're in the championship?

I don't recall when we entered the partnership with Woodhouse Grove so I can't say what facilities we used when we were in the 1st Division as I've never attended a training session. But as I think you are intimating, what effect does it really have on the ability to compete? I'd be interested to learn.

I just don't get the issue with our training facilities.
My son played at a few other clubs training facilities .
York, Sheffield utd, Rotherham, Middlesbrough, when I went there i didnt really see what more was on offer. They all looked pretty similar abdcwere use by the youth teams, wood house is decent, is it just that it's shared with a school?

Not this again!! Look, even Rupp said we need our own facilities. We want to keep improving as a whole, not just on the pitch.

The "if it ain't broke" mindset can be a pain cant it? We've had largely the same base for how many decades now? Football moves on, the games barely comparable off the pitch wise since the last time we were there. Nevermind that, it's different since the last time we flirted with promotion nearly a decade ago. You have to keep moving forward and at some point we will need a proper training base.

Nobody is disputing that it would be good to own our own facilities although I don't think the costs would change much it would give a sense of identity and continuity. I think what he's saying in his original post is what difference does it make to being in the Champ which is what this thread is about.

Outside of turning through the training base argument once again, it is too soon. IF we continue this pace and have a promotion again, the turnover in this team is going to be huge in the summer to be champ ready.

But, it's still far too early. I might have a dig into the books later today and see what the top 6 late Oct were compared to the end of the season and if there's much of a drop off.

Not a priority right now, probably not for a few years. I did notice yesterday Huddersfield Giants had started work on their new training facility, it would be a positive if we did eventually have our own. Doing it right would cost a fair whack with indoor facilities being the order of the day.

Exactly, it's something on the backlog but it's right that Rupp has publicly acknowledged we need to pick it up too at some stage. It will take years to land anyways. If we get promoted it probably jumps up the list but for now it's not a main issue.

Might be a bit of a culture shock for any CH standard players of their careers to date or PL loanees who might have been in pretty state of the art facilities and then going for a proper chef made lunch their old sessions.... to rocking up at the school and warming their lunch in one of the 3 microwaves we are given (according to Gareth Evans).

    Anyway, back on topic..

In my opinion I want my club to strive to be the best they can be and if that means getting another promotion so soon, all well and good. We would need big investment in the squad even to manage more than a season in the champ but as we've seen this season, some astute transfer business at reasonable cost can provide a good squad that can be built upon over time because as we've seen in the past, over extending budgets can bring calamitous decline.

I think we need an under 23 team more than a new training ground.

The latter is absolutely nonsense. Who owns the real estate we train on is irrelevant . Just because it didn’t cost £50 m it doesn’t make it second rate . Far and away better than many I have seen on Y/T . That’s fact.

It seems the current facility covers our needs, I do laugh at the reaction on here when the subject gets mentioned though. Way in the future and the way sport is heading a state of the art training centre for sport would be an asset for the city.

Who funds it ? Reading about the Giants project, there is expected to be later on large investment from the local council or other public money. That will entail public access to these facilities , same as Tranmere “industrial estate” complex. Sharing it means we would still work around other interested parties for access . Yes a great community asset but strictly not fully owned by the club . It could work but there has to be give and take if public monies are involved ?

That's usually the way these facilities are funded unless you're a premiership club awash with money. It's all hypothetical anyway, I can't see us getting a new facility in my life time as that's how the city of Bradford has always worked. Throw money at useless vanity projects.

Just looking at the last few seasons, it pretty much looks like the top 6 are over half way filled by this time of the season, the 12/13 games mark we are currently at. I've also marked the points gap at 12/13 games between 1st and 6th, as listening to EFL podcasts, a lot are amazed at how close this seasons top 6 are by this stage and it shows. Currently there are 2 points between Cardiff in 1st and Lincoln in 6th, but the race hasn't been that close at this stage in previous seasons.

    upload_2025-10-24_10-0-13.png

The top 6 is never set by now, but it's a decent picture. With how close the top 6 are and teams like Bolton, Barnsley, Huddersfield just a handful of wins away from getting back into the mix, the seemingly unending promise that Luton will come good, there's going to be a very good chunk of clubs waiting for someone to start slipping up.
