An interview at Carlisle....I was kinda hoping it was more formal than that just a bit with the local paper.

Interesting, that given their position now, Carlisle fans realise what an impressive job he did at the time (I was talking to a couple of their fans at a wedding in Liverpool the other week who confirmed this)

Maybe just maybe we could be a bit more measured in our criticism as there was a lot of rubbish spouted about how terrible his signings are

 

They were terrible.

 

What? Carlisle, our signings or both?

Either way. I totally disagree

 

A bit harsh considering the constraints Abbot will have been under, like Stuart was, but yeah, none of his signings have improved us from the season before. Not one of them was any better than the players they replaced. Hopefully his recommendations this upcoming season will be better.

 

Our signings, penny for penny, have been awful this last 12 months.

 

However it was titled every man on here should read it and take in what Greg is saying.

I Agree. I'm not sure you can totally call them his signings. Poor players they may be but he can only sign what the budget allows

 

As can anybody I suppose.

 

This the problem. Bargains can be found, but they are few and far between. So it is no good asking Greg to go out and find good players for a fiver, and fully expect him to come back with a half a million player. If fans are saying he has not chosen well within the financial constraints that is another argument.

 

The argument about the "fiver" and the bargain basement shopping would hold a lot more weight if we hadn't spunked over half a million quid on Poleon, Vincelot, McCarten and Reeves.

 

its only this season vincelots form fell off a cliff. Reeves hasnt played enough for usto convince me either way, mccartens showed in flashes what probably convinced us to go for him. poleon i will conede, however he did make a v bright start to the season

 

You're saying it's half a million well spent?

 

It is difficult to quantify, or I find it difficult. Poleon scored well when he first arrived but has been wasteful second half of the season, and never seems to be in the right place. Reeves was really good up until his injury, so can’t really say. McCarten I think is a good player and may well come to the party this season. Let’s face it the latter part of the season the whole team went downhill, then it is difficult to say anything individual about players unless they can rise above whatever malaise came over the team. At this level as I said before you are not going to get little gems, occasionally you do. Could we have got them for less money, maybe, but it seems we are always running to catch up, and when you are desperate for players it costs. I am guessing that when the starting guns go this season we will be in the same position. Previous managers players list, new manager no time to bring in his players, Greg not available. Let’s hope that we have some luck.

 

I don't find it that hard to quantify. If we'd have got all these players for frees I'd still have been disappointed in them. For £500,000....Jesus! I don't think we were particularly desperate when we signed these players either.

I think the board can be criticised for a lot of things but I don't think it's particularly accurate to say they have only allowed Greg to work with a "fiver" and overly constrained him.

 

Well when it comes to value of players, we all have different views, so we will have to agree to differ. I think you will find that Edin will have been the doing the financial negocations.
