Yes indeed. My Dad was fuming. I don't think Chelmsford ever recovered from the episode, although they aren't doing badly at present. They have one Billy Knott in midfield. My brother goes to see them quite a bit. As a hobby he reports on local non league (and occasionally league) for local community radio station Phoenix FM.

As touched on in earlier posts, the EFL have confirmed what will happen if Bury are expelled later this week:
    • Only 3 Clubs to be relegated from League One
    • Still four Clubs to be promoted from League Two
    • And:
which may leave the door open for Bury to rejoin the EFL, in League Two, in 2020/21 (although it could be further down the pyramid).

Pretty sure they would (if they could) have to start again way down the leagues, but for what it's worth, I think they are gonners...

My daughter's fiancee, Josh Hill, played CB for Chelmsford in the second half of the 2017/18 season. He shored up their defence and they raced into the playoffs. They got to the final against Ebbsfleet (featuring Aaron McLean, goal machine, who looked useless as ever). On the morning of the final the manager inexplicably dropped Josh from the settled defence and brought in a returning club favourite CB who'd just come back from a long injury, " for experience", despite Josh having played in two previous playoff finals at that level. They lost to two headers that Josh would have defended in his sleep. C'est la vie.

Sadly, I think their current owner is going to let them go under (at least as far as this season is concerned). What happens after that, who knows.

Reading the EFL statement, my first impression was that Bury would have to rejoin the pyramid as a non-league club. However, some media outlets are interpreting it as a possible opening for them to rejoin in League Two.

I have my doubts about Bury being allowed to rejoin in League 2. If the EFL do as they threaten and expel Bury, Bury will automatically lose their 'golden' share in the EFL. Without that they couldn't be a member of the EFL. And without membership of the EFL, they'd have to start their comeback lower down in the pyramid.

One thing I don't understand is who currently owns Gigg Lane. Two or three seasons ago, prior to Dale getting involved, the then owners (both property developers!) took Gigg Lane as collateral for the loans provided by them to fund the promotion push. I don't know whether they now own Gigg Lane or whether it is still in the ownership of the club or whether Dale has squirreled it away somewhere. I suspect who owns the ground will have a big sway in Bury's future. As @Allotment Bantam@Allotment Bantam posted, the only good thing is that irrespective of who owns it, the ground has already been registered as a Community Asset.

I think it is still owned by the club, so Dale, however the club had in effect remortgaged it to provide funds to bolster the wage bill as you commented on. It is how much is owed, and the CVA. I guess you will have a far better understanding of the mechanisms and potential.

I saw her on Sky News, pleading for somebody to come and help them, in particular Man City, Man United and Liverpool. I was embarrassed for her, but admired her determination to save her club even if it meant begging for funds from the super rich clubs.

It is dreadful how Bury and Bolton are just disintegrating before our eyes. We have had our fair share of that, and watching it brings back all the anxiety. I don’t rate Bolton’s chances either now Parky has gone he was holding the playing side together, but he has had enough.

I'm just reading through this thread so this may have been covered further down but the guy who wants to buy them is as bad as Dale himself, it's the ex Port Vale chairman who Port Vale have only just got rid of.

I think the Nevilles are life long supporters. I dont know how much Bury need to keep going, but you would like to think that the Neville family would be doing their best to keep them afloat.

Feel for the fans today. I remember feeling sick to the pit of my stomach all day, when we nearly went under, and were saved at the very last hour.

Hope they are saved. One of the oldest clubs in the world, FA Cup winners twice, it would be sad for the Football League family to lose them, in my opinion. Of course, most fans that follow their Premiership neighbours, wont give a toss, which is sad.

I remember Avenue going under, not nice for their fans, or our City generally, at the time, despite no love lost between City and Avenue fans at the time

Phil Neville was on Radio 5 this morning. His dad has a stand named after him and his mum has worked there 30 years, so as you say lifelong supporters. He sounded gutted. Seen that Dale has now launched a pledge scheme to raise £2.2m by end of today to show the EFL that funds are guaranteed. Don't like to see any team in trouble. This was always a good away day as eldest at Manchester Uni so met up and went on the tram.

So Dale, with 7 hours till the EFL deadline is begging for pledges of £2.7m, having had the last few months to prove to the EFL that he had the funds to run the club. I fear this is the end for them as Dale just seems to be looking at walking away with a pot of cash.

As for should the Neville's stump up? Why? Why should they pump money into a company they don't own so that someone like Dale gets the benefit. Unless Dale goes, and goes for the £1 he put in, as wages haven't been paid by him they have been paid by the PFA and loads of others have been screwed in the CVA where Dale appears to have been able to push the vote through (go look on companies house about the CVA for Bury football club) then why should anyone put anything in whilst he is still there or is set to make a return on holding a club to ransom.

I honestly believe the best way forward is for the EFL to try and bypass Steve Dale. They have no real legal way of getting rid of him as owner of the Club (unless he is willing to sell), so they should:
    1. Withdraw the 'Golden Share' from the Club and expel the Club from the EFL.
    2. Give other parties until, say, 31 March 2020 a chance to establish a replacement Bury Club (meeting the EFL's requirements), with the full backing of the supporters.
    3. If 2, above, is met, to readmit Bury to the EFL, in League Two, with effect from the 2020/21 season.
That's the fair way and its a way that punishes the owner and not the supporters too much, whilst sending out a message to other rogue owners as well.

Of course, the EFL won't do this, they'll just expel Bury and punish the supporters as well.

    Totally agree @Edin Nowhere@Edin Nowhere
The Nevilles or anyone else would be mad to prop up Dales reckless administration of the club.
Despite the PR from Dale I suspect he's no intention of selling and will asset strip the carcass of club before disappearing in to the sunset.
The EFL need to strengthen the rules around ownership and give themselves the power to step in and take action when they can see the mess clubs like Bury and Bolton get into. Even if that involves taking over the running of clubs.
It amazes me how the EFL just sits back and let's this kind of thing happen.

How would the EFL take over? Just assume ownership of all the assets including the ground? I'm all for more control from the league but they are in a no win situation. Imagine it gets to Christmas and we are pushing for promotion and the league steps in and says, sorry you are over spent, send all your loans back now, no signings and you have to sell some players as you are over spent.

No, I don't want to stop relegation and promotion to the National League, in fact I'd like to see 3 down and 3 up between Leagues One and Two, and between League Two and the National League to bring them all into line.

What I do want to stop is rogue owners exploiting Clubs.
