Hope you are not holding your breath for that to happen. By next week it will be old news and fallen off The couple of MPs radar that it is currently on.

Following a late bid to purchase Bury (including the reported transfer of funds) an emergency meeting of the EFL has been called for noon today.

    Could Bury be 'unexpelled'?

Might sound harsh. Great news about someone potentially taking the club over and providing a club for the community. However, I don't think they should be reinstated at League 1 level and just pretend that nothing ever happened. The EFL would look weak imo. Bury didn't meet the guidelines so they've received the punishment required. I think they have to stand by their decision and Bury should work their socks off from the bottom tier like other clubs have in recent times.

If they are allowed to take part this season what would be a fair punishment. It wouldnt be fair on Bolton if Bury just get to start build a squad whereas Bolton had to play the kids

They had too many chances to meet deadlines, the EFl was right to expel them and tbh IMO should have done so pre-season as it's ended up a farce.

My guess, if they re-form, is that they'll be put in National League North, that's level 6, at worse it'll be Northern Premier and even that is only 3 promotions from League 2. At this level it is regionalised, lower level clubs could not afford the safety measures necessary to host a re-formed Bury.

I watch football at these levels & lower, there is no money to be made, it's a level where clubs sometimes cannot afford to be promoted and others refuse it. All clubs in whatever divison Bury end up in, will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of the windfall their home game with them will bring, believe me.

Fresh start, debt free, chance of a re-brand, big crowds and only 3 promotions from the FL, not too bad really, nobody's legs dropped off.

Two reasons why the EFL may reinstate Bury:
    1. The offer, from SJ Global, came in before the deadline and;
    2. It appears the EFL may have contravened its own regulation 5.3 in expelling Bury, in that "no member may be expelled without the sanction of a special resolution passed at an Annual or Extraordinary General Meeting of The League".
    Ooops.

I can see the second one causing issues but not the first one. There have been offers coming in all over, the deadline was Friday but was extended for the other bid to be given time.

I agree. The EFL could probably come up with reasonable arguments to discount the late bid, on the basis that the extension was given purely to allow the earlier bid to get over the line. However, such a move would fly in the face of the EFL's comments about trying everything they could to keep Bury in the EFL.

Yep but how long do you keep extending to get a deal over the line? I think the Bolton deal has only been finalised due to Bury getting expelled.

I agree, it should not have been allowed to go on this long; the EFL has to take a long, hard look at itself.

A failure to fulfil the first fixture of the season should have triggered an Extraordinary General Meeting of the EFL Clubs. By the time the meeting took place, no doubt further fixtures would have been either played and postponed and the Clubs themselves could have voted on whether or not to expel Bury. Same with Bolton.

Of course, if the EFL had robust systems in place, none of this mess would have been necessary. Bury (and Bolton) have to accept their share of responsibility for the position they are in and should be duly punished. However, I would argue that the single common denominator in these two Clubs' problems, along with those at Blackpool, Coventry, Charlton etc. etc. is a very weak EFL.

The thing is people are calling the EFL about for being weak but if they had stopped Bury signing Vaughan as it wouldn’t be financially wise their fans would have been in up roar.

Shaun Harvey jumped ship just before it hit the iceberg didn't he.

A man involved in 3 Admins and stood up in court and said he didn't know who owned the club he was CEO at whilst at Leeds should never have gotten anywhere near running the EFL. His EFL trophy is a joke as attendances show except for the day out at Wembley which would still be there if the competition didn't have U23s team in.

He famously said that Bolton Fans would remember Ken Anderson because he put the club on a good footing for years to come.

At least the EFL are showing some teeth now and are forcing the hands of some clubs, Bolton were taking the mickey and until Bury were kicked out were just stalling, Steve Dale wasn't making any attempt to appease the EFL, in the past you would have seen Shaun Harvey wave them through to start the season no questions asked, after all Steve Dale took over Bury on his watch.

He didn't jump ship, he was booted out in February by a small group of Championship clubs (ironically including Leeds) who believed the TV rights contract he had negotiated for the EFL didn't provide as much money for the larger Championship clubs (inc Leeds, Villa and Derby) as they had wanted. The larger clubs wanted more for themselves and less for the rest of the EFL! He was then put on gardening leave for several months.

I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. In his previous role, he was the one who had to sign off the Owners and Directors test! I always believed when he was Club Secretary at Scarborough, he was out of his depth.

    Based on StaffordBantams post,

It appears the EFL may have contravened its own regulation 5.3 in expelling Bury, in that "no member may be expelled without the sanction of a special resolution passed at an Annual or Extraordinary General Meeting of The League".

Imagine if the legal challenge won, surely a vote of no confidence in the board would follow who have pushed it through "against" their own rules.
