You're giving up. It's a Bradford thing and you're not even from here, you've caught it! You're defeating the idea before it's started.

I linked earlier to a similar scheme that's gaining momentum for Peterborough. If they can do it why can't we?

I see what you're saying about the council, it's all cuts now. That said, they're investing in the City of Culture bid. They offered a loan to the Bulls to keep them at Odsal. If a long term plan can be shown to be a sound investment for the people of Bradford they have a duty to be involved. Doesn't have to be millions in cash it could be donations of land, easing planning etc.

This is the same council that had money shunted away in Icelandic banks when all that shit was going down, the same council that purchased land in the city centre for millions to be left there doing nothing. They may make out they don't have owt but they can raise it if they need to. They were quick enough to loan Omar Khan some dollars when the Bulls were going down the swanny. And think of how many hair brained schemes they've backed over the years, remember the millions they spunked on tramsperience?

Not forgetting the Council's little venture with Headingly investing in a game of cricket, which lost money.

All of this is true. But most, if not all of these things happened before the council had its operating budget slashed in half. It is now staggering from one crisis to another. Essential child protection, mental health and adult social care services are being run on a shoestring. Many thousands have been laid off. You can argue that there was significant waste in the past but all the doable cuts have been made now - they're into the bone.
Unless and until the funding is increased I can see no prospect of the council speculating on grand capital schemes that benefit a pretty small proportion of the 600k local residents.

The council don't necessarily have to put in loads of money. They can however be wilful partners clearing barriers. Bringing parties together, facilitating meetings. Committing to using the facilities when built for meetings, school sports. Several ways.

But where would the private sector funding come from Al? I've seen no sign of any private sector investors being willing to help finance multi-million pound schemes in Bradford in recent years. Quite the opposite, in fact.

They could rent it to Bradford council so they have a landfill site.
