Not only Euro’s but the value Of the Pound against the Dollar has fallen. Given that we buy Oil in Dollars, then it is inevitable that costs will rise, as the currency slowly sinks.
That includes finished products and raw materials, which are essential for the production of goods manufactured in the UK.

I think there is a lot of presuming and guessing with a fair bit of colouring depending on your view on Brexit,
To both sides I would say this, Trade always finds a way, it is the basis of a world built on capitalism and even China joins in as a communist country, Despite all the doom forecasters business always finds a way to trade and make money despite governments and politicians,
Trade may take a slight hiccup at worst but the desire for wealth and money will win in the end, We will be ok, Trade and money always wins

The pound has always fluctuated as do all currences, low exchange rate is good for business that export their goods abroad and obviously more expensive for businesses who rely on imports, and dearer holidays.
Let's have another look in 12 to 18 months when we have exited the EU and they have to fill the gap left by the second biggest contributor the EU coffers.

I agree that currencies fluctuate. But this is a steady and clear decline over a five year period! The pattern is very clear. As someone who likes European products, from cars, food, drink, clothing and holidays, then I really hope that the pound regains its strength, however I am fairly pessimistic.

This virus and the mass unemployment it is going to bring should be used to redress the balance between the service sector and manufacturing.
Government should encourage new manufacturing companies in green and digital technology and in light of what has happened pharmaceutical and diagnostic and research.
Incentives like low rates of corporation tax for new set ups and initially even government run enterprises should be set especially in deprived areas of the country.
It’s going to be a mess but it could be a big opportunity

Renewable is certainly the way to go and offers large potential for employment, it is now coming down to a resonable cost whereas when it was new it was too expensive for the ordinary man it the street, and more so when the intention is to stop using gas in preference to green electricity.

I'd agree with the premis that trade and money will ultimately win out and both trade and money will gravitate to those areas who provide the best environment for trade and money to fluorish. Anybody or rather any country who builds barriers whether they are tariffs, regulatory impediments or customs checks to restrict trade will lose out to those who don't have these. And the UK will be building these barriers in droves to separate it from the largest and wealthiest trading bloc in the world. Notwithstanding the huge impact dealing with Covid 19 will have on every country, every economic forecaster ofany note has consistently said that without an FTA with the EU, the UK's economy will fall relatively to others. They might all disagree on the precise level of that fall but all agree that the number is a negative one. That is, our economy will contract without a trade deal with the EU. And that's for the simple reason that being on the outside is never as good as being on the inside.

    The Nissan quote was :
Nissan ‘could pull out of EU and expand in UK after hard Brexit’.

Brexit is not the disaster many remainers make it out to be, nor is it the panacea many leavers think it is. We have already wasted far too much time and energy on it and the priority now must be to leave without delay.

Deals will be made and whether or not that is before or after 31 December 2020 is not hugely important; yes, there will be winners and losers, but that is always the case with change. I believe the delays have been far more damaging than leaving ever will be. I suspect in 10 years time people will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about.

And, anyway, we have far more important things to worry about at the moment.

Disagree. Whilst I agree reluctantly that it has to proceed there is far to much turbulence in the world at the moment to deal with this. Let’s remain following EU rules for another year so as to battle to get back to normal

The problem with the EU (well one of the problems anyway) is that they only seem to negotiate seriously in the last few weeks and, sometimes, days and hours before a deadline; we can't just keep extending the deadline. Extending the deadline has become a habit, rather than a necessity.

Believe me (or maybe not ;)), this virus has caused far, far more economic damage than Brexit ever will. We need to move on and fight the real battle.

This shouldn't surprise anybody other than parts of the farming industry itself. It certainly shouldn't come as a surprise to the Express or its readers.

Liz Truss who is in charge of trade negotiations was one of the authors of Britannia Unchained - along with Dominic Raab, Kwasi Kwartang and Priti Patel, all ultra free marketeers - who wanted to dismantle the protection of the UK's environmental standards, employment rights and safety standards in the name of free trade and deregulation. Despite recent promises to the contrary, this is the future once the transition period with the EU ends. Apparently it's what people voted for and what the media epitomised by the Express promoted at the time. C'est la vie.

Sounds a bit like the fear campaign we have got used to, That article finishes with a comment from the Government,

A Government spokesman said: “We have been clear that in all of our trade negotiations – including with the US in our first round of negotiations – that we will not undermine our high domestic environmental protection, animal welfare and food safety standards by ensuring in any agreement British farmers are always able to compete.”

By the way Michael Gove is red hot on animal welfare and there is no way he would accept lower standards when he has fought hard to improve them over the years
