    Over the years the Tories have been a bit heartless with little compassion but you least had the impression of a bit of competence but not with this administration a few weeks old and they have already lost the chancellor and may lose the Home Secretary soon Johnson at times is incoherent. God help us for the next five years

    Who is this Tim Leaung fella, google brings up nothing? His opinion clearly isn't valid whoever he is as it's been clear that our fishing waters is something that we see as a priority.

    That should go down well in certain quarters!

    It's up there with Prof Minford's nonsense (he was the Leave campaign's goto economist) about unilaterally introducing zero tariffs post Brexit if we didn't get a FTA with the EU27 in order to improve trade on WTO rules with the rest of the world. He did of course recognise that in doing so, it would destroy the rest of the UK agricultural sector and most of the manufacturing sector and add a couple of million to the unemployment figures.

    There's no point in protecting our waters for fishing if we don't have access to the markets in which we sell the fish. Whilst important symbolically, the fishing sector is a minnow (sorry!) in economic terms - less than 0.1% of our GDP and most of that (about 80%) from selling fish to the EU. Without tariff free access to the Single Market, ie without a free trade agreement our fishing fleet will be stuck in the harbours in any event with 'our' fish swimming around freely in 'our' waters.
