What if the club are aware of other evidence and the believe the police acted illegally?

There are numerous stats of BAME being stopped based on profiling. There comes a time when enough is enough. Had this been Marshall or Reid would people be as critical? Maybe it’s because he’s “meh”.

Playing devils advocate, the club could have supported the player without providing legal assistance as this is a private matter. Wonder if they backed Robinson in the same way?

The gist of the claim seems to be that BRE suffered "alarm and distress" as this was set out early in the club's statement.

Not sure you would have been treated differently tbh.

Plenty of people get handcuffed and arrested for that matter for things they have no involvement in. The vast majority have to accept the explanation and move on. If your a celebrity or BAME however it's a much bigger deal and a completely different procedure seem to comes into play. That's prejudicial in itself in my book. I don't think anyone is underplaying the terrible situation he found himself but if your advocating fair play for all then everyone should have the same opportunity to express their indignation and it shouldn't be just because of your race or the fact you're a footballer.

Who are these 'plenty of people', or more appropriately, what statistic are you using?

    Nope.

But 'plenty of people' makes it sound pretty significant - so I'm curious as to how significant it is?

If you must know I was drawing on my own experience. I've been handcuffed for reasons without foundation. (so I have some idea how BRE feels) Speaking to my solicitor I expressed my indignation and outrage and told him I wanted some redress. His advice was that in his experience (that's where I get plenty of people from because he was an experienced solicitor with plenty of experience of this sort of situation) you've got no chance, don't put yourself through it and just put the whole sorry episode behind you. I accepted his advice.

It riles me to some extent that high profile people manage to to go down this route with some success. If you accept that my solicitors advice was sound and I had no chance then it would seem that the system works differently for different people. So we're back to the beginning. BRE is perhaps thinking he was treated differently to begin with but at least he has a route open to him that was denied me.

That's interesting that you're putting stock in your solicitor's advice. He told you don't bother.

BRE's may tell him that, actually, perhaps he should pursue it for whatever reasons, the context of the social climate, whatever.

If you listened to the advice you got and that's good enough for you, actually surely you're in a prime position to accept without question that BRE might do the same without second guessing that he thinks he should be treated differently?

If you read what he is saying he is not complaining about being stopped it’s his treatment afterwards just like the two athletes

He was cooperative with them. Let’s see what happens if it goes to law. Good on the club for supporting him

You didn’t answer the question. You had an issue with “his treatment”. What treatment please?

If I had committed a traffic offence I wouldn’t expect to be put in handcuffs. He committed No offence he wasn’t aggressive in any way

Possibly. That still doesn't explain why the two police officers were put in harm's way with only a taser between them to deal with a potentially armed suspect by those with access to the intel who flagged up the car. I'm sure that will come out through the inquiry.

I put links on the other thread to Home Office reports questioning the success rate of stop and search. It's not very successful as a policy at all.

Any evidence of this traffic offence yet?

We have lots of ARVs to deal with these kinds of incidents. That's what they are there to do. I suspect that had the intel been genuine and current, an ARV would have been called and the police wouldn't have relied on a couple of unarmed officers in a panda car.

They agreed on the bodycam footage and the subsequant police statement confirmed as much . Its gone quiet on the " outrage " front . Perhaps as part of the BLM " defund the police stance" all traffic offences should be let go that would be a major step forward .. Not stopping vehicles without insurance- licences - MOTs etc would slash crime rates and of course reduce the % of arrests , and as a bonus make driving a lot cheaper for all .
