I think he's suggesting that the continuing rise of internet shopping will kill retail centres.
There's no doubt that it's having a big impact. All the big stores like John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser etc are struggling. I certainly do most of my shopping online now; it makes buying Christmas presents much quicker and easier.

I think you're right that big regional centres will probably survive because they offer food, drink and social life as well as shopping. But many town centres are dying on their feet and it's hard to see that trend reversing.

On the face of it that seems a reasonable plan. There's too big a disconnect between the Broadway areas and the top of the city centre. Moving the market further down and creating linking features in between seems sensible.
But it all has the feel of shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic, unfortunately. It's damage limitation at best. The horse has bolted to Leeds and isn't coming back, I fear.

Yes, if Debenhams goes it will be a massive hit for Broadway. Do people still use HMV? I'm still surprised Superdry has lasted, never really see people buying in there.

Funnily enough HMV and Waterstones are the only shops that draw me to Bradford
Spend quite a bit of money each year in HMV, Bradford, and always have. Friendliest and most helpful retail staff I have ever come across, so I for one, will really miss HMV if they close down

Bradford centre has been dying for 30+ years, it's decline has been accelerating recently. What on earth would be "fine" about a car park.

I also see that the old Mecca nightclub has got the go ahead as a wedding venue. Partly a positive as it will bring folk into Bradford but the downside will be parking around VP will be limited even more than it already is.

I see your point, Rog. But, I don’t think Bradford is dead yet, there’s still plenty of potential there. It will take a lot of work, admittedly.

Nice to hear someone else speaking pragmatically without some liberal bleeding hear pulling out the race card or a right wing fascist seeing it as a call to arms.

It is what it is .

Your point about the buildings worth saving and the rest being worthy of demolition is so true. How on earth did this total demise happen so fast?

Saddens me, that. We've talked about living elsewhere eventually but it'd be with a heavy heart.

Got family coming over from Leeds for a day on the beer later. We're going into town.

Kind of made/makes me sad too. Soon forget it though when you can drive or walk around without shaking your head in disbelief. Also good to see businesses thriving and people being generally nice to each other. It's a different world.

Really, it was dead on a Friday night? The Odeon can't come quickly enough for that place. I couldn't get a seat in any bar outside on Greek St today at 2pm and it wasn't even sunny, 90% of the clientele dressed up to the nines and out to spend money.

No it was a Thursday night but i remember the days when Thursdays were a great night out, was known as the emergency services night, i'm assuming because of how the shifts worked. It was a shame because the Sunbridge tunnels deserves to be successful, its well done out and has a uniqueness to it. But as i've mentioned far too many times Bradford has absolutely no discerning feature to it for people to come here, just a well populated area at the bottom of a bowl. Well populated by people, most of whom have absolutely nothing in common with each other. Still, you can always watch the Wacky races as they fly through the city centre in their golfs and Audis.

Grew up in the Bradford Moor area so know what you mean: pubs shut, schools demolished etc etc. Moved out of Bradford for promotion and by chance ended up where I am now. The move upset me a lot at the time but 34 years on I am very glad I made it.
