I took my car down for its annual service at Bristol Street Motors I didn't ring my local taxi as it could have been a problem finding me in that chaos that is Bradford city centre, I had to walk from Thornton Road to the railway station to get a taxi.

Hmm, I wonder if this is partly the reason as to why the council have been so reluctant to say what's being going behind the scenes at Bradford Live? Costa apparently skyrocketing toward the £50 million mark, talk of loans being taken out. This has disaster written all over it, not the work carried out as it looks fantastic but who the bloody hell is actually paying for it and how much is gonna cost the taxpayer? How the hell do folk like Hinchcliffe and Ross-Shaw end up so completely out of their depth, one time door knocking councillors running projects worth 10s of millions?

No wonder the council kept quiet all these months, now in balls deep for £43million of taxpayers money. The refurb looks fantastic but just a teeny bit more than the £22 million originally quoted in 2019. No opening date yet mind, it's alright guys, we've spunked over double the original quote but just open it whenevers convenient...

Quoted in the T and A there isn't an opening date yet, which I guess as there are no acts booked, isn't that important. Final fit out still to be done whatever that entails.

Does anyone shoulder any responsibility at the Council?

Was anyone sacked for the Broadway delay?

Was anyone sacked following death of baby Star?

Is anyone going to take responsibility for thus project costing £50m up from it's original £22m?

Just imagine if you costed something up at work and it ended up costing over twice as much. You'd part ways not carry on as if nothing happened.

I want Bradford live to succeed. I think this is more needed than a water feature or the Hinchcliffe Towers office block, but frig me. Who looks at budgets and finance down at City Hall? How can you get the sums so wrong?

Public sector budgets for major works have always been a bit of a joke. Usually, if a realistic budget is put forwards, then it will be voted down; so to get them approved, they are vastly underestimated, which inevitably leads to an endless succession of major projects that are over budget. That's democracy for you.

I understand building contracts where there are costings to allow for higher costs in materials and labour due to there being a difference in when the quote was originally done to when the project starts but well over double? Do me a favour.

Yet again the inept Bradford Council fail massively to manage costings effectively, and yet again they get away with it. How our blind population continue to vote these idiots in absolutely beggars belief. How on earth can you go over budget by the same amount as the original tender

If this happened in any privately owned company, not only would heads roll and you'd be out of a job, but the company would likely go to the wall as well. A well run business could normally absorb an odd balls-up here and there, but it seems to be every single thing Bradford Council do that costs spirals out of control. But it is all fine and dandy, because us complete muggy taxpayer will continue bailing them out with our hard earned brass!

Hinchcliffe and her useless staff should be resigning for a woefully managed project, not taking bloody plaudits

Why cost of Bradford Live has soared to £50.5 million

Don't worry guys its all covered

Of this, £43.75m is from the Council - made up of grants and loan cash - and the remainder is from West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

T&A with the bingo card out.

Covid, The Ukraine War, Brexit, etc, etc all spewed out by the regeneration Councillor at the council as to why the cost has gone from £22m to £50.5m.

The T&A as always accepting the excuses and not following up with any pressing questions or asking exactly how something budgeted after Brexit happened is any kind of reason.

The sound of silence still emanating from City Hall. This is what happens when you leave £10s of millions of tax payers in money in the hands of an ex door knocking canvasser for local councillors in charge of running the show. Noticeable when you get the right people in charge you get successful venues like the first direct arena.in Leeds or the Piece Hall in Halifax. It's clear the NEC want nothing to do with this utter shitshow, probably trying to get out of the 'contract' they signed. Kinda sums Bradford up as a whole really.
