I agree with what he's trying to achieve but not with his all of his reasoning behind his request. Saying that I'll be damned if I give this useless council anymore of my money that I've be had to graft my bollocks off my for. No handouts for us self employed, can't be off sick in our game.

Not a Bradford resident for 30 years or more however I do feel for those that are
Disgraceful planned increase but not surprising they have to balance the books somehow to justify COC 2025 and as usual the honest working man becomes the easy target and made to suffer
I wonder what amount they are owed from previous years from "difficult to collect" residents I bet it's astronomical
Maybe start a no payment campaign until all the historical unpaid tax is collected would open their eyes
    Somehow I doubt it

Any council tax rise which is required outside the normal rules of 5% has to be agreed via a local referendum. However this moves away from that to allow the most useless leader of a council you will ever see a backdoor to push through a rise that she knows full well the public would never agree with.

It is an absolute disgrace that this kind of shady thing is taking place, and that woman will just keep her job to carry on regardless is a massive kick in the balls. I've said many times that if Susan Hinchcliffe is the best Bradford Labour has, then the rest of them must struggle to tie their own shoelaces.

I read that if the council say they are in danger of bankruptcy then the government could allow it, I believe at least two council have gone back to the government cap in hand making that claim.

Yes, Susan is playing the system to try and obtain more funds to spaff up the wall. She has seen this as a way to remove the say from the people of Bradford. Last year £200m was taken out in a loan, not one Bradford resident has a say in this and we are now paying for it.

I've had a quick look at the Bands for Bradford and my gaff down here.
Ours has gone up 2.99% this year and is a tad shy of £300 more expensive than Bradford.
Ours includes a contribution to the GLA which in turns funds TFL. We have weekly rubbish and recycling collections and bi monthly garden waste collection. We don't have any real glamour projects (we did that in the 80's and spectacularly failed)
What are they spending it all on?

They spent £50m to convert a Cinema which they can't open as no one wants to take it one. They spent £4m on a car park just to knock it down. They have pedestrianised the whole of the City Centre. Spent millions to move the market, plunged £10m into the city of culture, lost children's services to a trust and now have to pump millions into something they don't control.

Darley Street Market handed over to Bradford Council | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

This article gives you an idea how incompetent our council is :
It was previously stated the venue would open in autumn 2023 - but this was pushed back to spring 2024, then later this year.
The original budget for the market was £23.5 million - but this then increased to £27m, with the Council blaming high inflation rates.
And this lot keep getting back in !!.

Earlier this year, the authority pumped another £1.4m into the scheme after it emerged the original plan of finding a third-party operator to run the food hall had fallen through.

The whole thing has become one massive joke, but alas not a funny one. Actually angers me to see such incompetence and no one held accountable, infact lets double down on it and bang a 15% hike on council tax while we are it. The Odeon now a millstone round the neck of the taxpayers of this city, and they wonder why the place has such a bad name across the country?

I'm not sure which part of the City you live in, but for someone who's half way between Bingley and Keighley it's sickening seeing this waste all splurged on places that can only be seen from the windows of City Hall. Bingley has been in managed decline for years, the pool closure, parking charges everywhere, a market that has died due to the councils efforts to stop passing trade, Keighley gets literally nothing from Bradford Council, the only thing they committed to was dumping an incinerator plant in the valley that everyone in Town objected too, and then for the same council to without a hint of irony claim they needed to open a clean air zone. I mean you can't make this shit up.

Up in sunny Queensbury. Used to have the tip at the bottom of our road, I could walk the wheelie bin there if I forgot to put it out. A purpose made piece of land completed to facilitate waste disposal now for sale because the council claim they are skint. But not skint enough to splurge a fortune on the city centre. A short term gain on the council books taking out a facility used regularly by the surrounding communities, a long term loss and an insignificant saving in the grand scheme of council incompetence.
The city of culture to me the icing on the cake of absolute absurdity, literally putting lipstick on a dying pig. Walked from the top end of the interchange, contractors painting walls and putting vinyl signage up, lots of flower arrangements in the twain station, you can tart the place up however you want but it will make not a jot of difference.
Walked past the empty Odeon, I know the big screen works cos they used it announce the city of culture, so why isn't it being used now? One massive advertising billboard sat there like a blank TV screen. Walk up Darley Street, usual characters from Land of the living dead moping around, a new unused building still sat behind hoardings masquerading as a new market apparently. The paving looks nice though, although I guess there will be money in the future to care for the many flower beds that will end up as litter bins as no enforces any street laws anymore.
But hey at least the coffee in Spoons is cheap, even got to see a kick off before eleven o'clock in this wonderful cultural oasis.

Have you all not heard - Bradford is the greatest city in the world! That's what they actually say on the TV ad for Hamilton the musical at the Alhambra.
