I can't remember when this team had a prolonged period of playing entertaining football. Maybe '98-99 season?

We all know what we are getting with Bradford City by now, especially over the last 5 or 6 years. It really is nothing new to get upset about

 

Same feelings here. As you know I attend every game home and away but starting to feel more like a chore than something I actually enjoy.

The last team I can say I enjoyed watching was the 2016/2017 team that reached the play off final and before that was probably the 2013 history makers.
The common factors of both those teams was the urgency to get forward at every opportunity and as swiftly as possible. We also had fast exciting wingers who sometimes frustrated with the end product but at least it got you off your seat in anticipation.

 

Attacking or defending a set piece, we look out of place every time. All 11 defending in your box and zonal marking just doesn't work, nobody has a clue who they are supposed to watch and even if we win the first header, all 11 are in the box and they have 3 outside waiting to start the second phase. Brainless defending and I have no clue why Hughes persists with it.

But attacking, it's like we do that zonally too. There's never like a set piece "play" we do. Sometimes you'll see a team have 3 or 4 lads all stand together on the edge of the area and break runs in different directions causing panic on the markers. We all just seem to take up the same spots and don't leave the defence guessing. We just hope we are stronger than the marker. Not just the 3 CBs, Cook is a big lad (obvs injured at the min), McDonald looks a big un, Richards is a CB by trade until about 12 months ago, Oyegoke has size. We should have 5 or 6 options who aren't strangers to winning a challenge but we never seem to have a prayer.

 

I’ll get stick for saying this, but thank goodness Gillead is on. A player who moves and presses at least!!!!

 

Pointon is a baller

 

Improved second half, but in reality that should be a minimum level of performance not maximum. It’s impossible to get over the first half it was so bad.

As for Grimsby, Hurst has always been a negative manager so I wasn’t surprised to see them park the bus they got what they deserved. Both teams were garbage and deserved a loss but this was the next most fair result.

Bobby Pointon though looked great again, I hope he keeps getting starts, in a more positive set up I think he’d really flourish.

 

First half was a disgrace, second half was an improvement.

Halliday probably the real MOTM, he did so much work that allowed Pointon to look as good as he did.

Dear oh dear, Derbyshire needs to seriously consider retirement, aside from one quality flick round the corner to Walker (who was poor), he was chronic.

No more 5 at the back, it's an abomination.

 

Dark age football looked O/K to me second half, at least we weren't bored stupid as we were the first half.

 

It is difficult to know what to say about that game. The first half was as bad as I have seen, at no time did I think we would score. We were sat so deep, and a gap between midfield and our front men resembling the great canyon.

Second half better, but why leave Derbyshire on?? It was clear he was finished. Afoka looks good showed desire and good moves, but he needed to be on for the whole game. Our lad Pointon was really good which brings me onto my worry. We have all these young lads who are not getting a game, why?

I have no words as to our manager it has all been said. You have to attack to score goals and win matches if you want promotion. I am fairly confident that this will not be happening this season.

 

Did he mention how long the unjuries are out for?

Thought halliday and Pointon were the stand out players for us today, also gilly has to start next week giid player that lad, absolute work horse and does all the hard graft in midfield.

 

We certainly don’t look like a team with any outstanding attributes that makes me think we are one of the better teams in the league.
The old cliche of waiting till Christmas before getting a clear picture of where we are is true in our case this season.
I have no idea what our best 11 is and im not sure MH does either. We have a few injuries at the moment which makes it difficult but again the recruitment has been so bizarre. No one but 57 year old Derbyshire to play upfront at the moment. No backup GK apart from Doyle. If Lewis got injured for any amount of time we would be in the shit.
3 wingers signed in the last couple of days in the window despite that clearly not being the original plan. A number of attacking mids although one was bought in as LWB. A whole host of defensive midfielders who will have to be chopped and changed due to McDonalds fitness and then 6 centre backs, 3 of which start then one gets pulled at HT as the formation isn’t working.
When we have a fully fit squad then I have absolutely no idea who plays. Trying to find room for McDonald, Gilly, Smallwood, Walker, Chapman and Pattison is a decent headache to have but for team cohesion and squad happiness.
I think it’s a mess.

 

That's hard to disagree with, through the years I've watched Bradford City the few times we've won promotion or been there abouts you could recall several games during those seasons where the team took the opposition to pieces, the season under Cherry we gave teams 2 goals start at Valley Parade and then kicked arse (apart from was it Reading ?) the nearly season we played some delightful football and you could not wait to get down to Valley Parade to see the demolishing of the next opponents, point out one game last season when we did that.
It was a hotchpotch of a season getting results without playing well or am I being too critical of Mark Hughes ?.

 

Surprised there hasn’t been much praise on here for Gilly. He helped make the difference with a great showing. He fits in to whatever system we play

I've not really got that impression from Hughes interviews? Sometimes he seems as frustrated as the fans

Going to almost every single game, I am as frustrated with this club as the next man, believe me

 

Jesus wept, walking wounded playing any advanced position for us this season. See what the loan kids and Derbyshire can muster up in 90 minutes. Oh well, at least it's not on tele........

 

Totally unacceptable one of the worst displays in years and that’s not easy, lucky Grimsby are so poor of we were playing an attacking side it would be like Morecambe but worse.

 

Derbyshire has been w*nk. What a pointless signing.

 

Hughes saying we planned to press in the first half. He is either a downright liar or his players weren't listening to instructions. We stood off them the whole half.
