Good win but defence very shaky. And sadly, because I like the lad, we looked much more effective when Walker went off.

Agree with all of that, and the fact Cook and Lewis are two of our best players tells me they'll obviously come good.

Work to do on the defensive side, and Osadebe had a shocker, but plenty to look forward to.

That's right. We've shoehorned Walker into an attacking role he's not comfortable with. We should have a system and play/recruit players to fit it. That's what I've said countless times but we continue to play people where they're not happy. As soon as a natural forward came on in Smith we looked a different side. I know Walker was originally a winger but he doesn't look happy there now. He's a warrior though.

Decent enough performance and certainly something to build on. Oduor is getting better with each game and Pattison is proving to be the player we all hoped we were getting.

One gripe, why are we still sitting back on a one goal lead? Have we learnt nothing from last season?

Personally I still think we need a proper LWB. In the first half especially, that left side was causing us all sorts of problems. Kelly was out of position a lot an Gilliead had too much ground to cover

Does anyone know why we kicked off 10 minutes late? It was bad enough having around 20 minutes of extra time to contend with without adding to it.
I am glad my little grandson was out with his other grandma and we didn't bring him today. He would never have been able to sit still for that length of time.

Please don't respond to him. It was great that he's already been poking around for a reaction and didn't get one. I love the idea of him getting ignored and becoming more and more frustrated.

Yes, he did OK. But he's not the answer.

I'm going to stick my colours to the mast and say I like the 3 at the back... it gives us good options going forward, always have the switch ball out to the WB hugging the touchline, have the extra man at the back which is negating the press as we can pass round it (one particular error not relating to the system notwithstanding!). People banging on about the pace of the defenders but Kelly and Platt seemed plenty mobile enough to me to handle it - the times we get beaten down the channels will be more than compensated for by the additional opportunities afforded by the system going forward

Our fans get hysterical. Look at the meltdown after the Crawley loss. Pretty much wrote the season off.

We are 2pts ahead of this stage of last season.

    Can't agree bots
He had time to find row Z in MR if he felt uneasy
I can agree our defenders make him the "get out" option far too often instead of getting their heads up for a forward pass
Smallwood has to take a portion of the blame he had a yard on their player to get to the ball but was too slow

Lewis fault. He is told to play a certain way but common sense should over ride that in situations like that.

    Safety first. Always.

Cook gets his shirt pulled all the time, never got given anything for it last year and doesn't look like that's going to change now they are supposedly clamping down on it.

One interesting thing yesterday was that a lot of our attacking crosses came from the centre halves! Platt in particular got very forward at times and put some decent balls into the box.

Agree he looked off it and a gradual increase in game time seems to be a sensible approach. However his positional awareness stood out to me, seemed to be in the right place to break up attacks before they amounted to anything. Early days yet but hopefully once he's match fit we'll have an intelligent DM capable of breaking things up and with the ability to release some of the pace/goal threat we now have in Midfield/Uptop.

And then when they get to 8 or 9 they wipe the floor with you and strut tound the room like some sort of Ronaldo wannabe.

i like to wait a bit and reflect on the match, before i comment. There was some pleasing things, i like the look of Pattinson and Smith, the link between Oyekoe and Odour looks very promising, the latter could be a really good player on that showing, 1 game admittedly.
The defence centrally worries me a little, plenty of height, but very sluggish , thought Gillead was steady as the left wing back.
Our 2 stand out players from last season Lewis was not his usual self and cook looked off the pace to me.
Giving yesterday a 6 from 10, room for improvement and hopefully a couple of good loan players in before the window closes.

The 'pegged in our own half' was completely our own doing for me Park.
We sat back (as usual) and allowed Colchester to come at us, very frustrating and so many calls by the fans of "out, out" could be heard.
Hell, we don't half invite trouble.
