The Rochdale game last Tues was very very close to being called off when spectators were in the ground and the suites were open.

Ulysses, don't bother mentioning after 3pm to @Loyalbantam@Loyalbantam . I made the point in post 280 that 4.30 onwards with no sun is just as relevant as 3pm, but he totally ignored it. It's as if he thinks City enjoy losing money.

A few of the league 1 clubs that have recently been in the Championship have undersoil heating already installed and so they use it like Sheff Wednesday, Derby and Barnsley. Also a lot of the games that were on were southern based like Portsmouth, Oxford, Plymouth, Forest Green which seems to escape the worst of the minus temperatures.

Surely somewhere someone makes a rather large electric blanket? Imagine, a roll of something to provide a topside barrier with “heat tracing” on the underside. Problem is market demand I reckon.

Mate, you can’t call a game off just in case there’s a risk it won’t finish.
The Rochdale game last week was touch and go before kick off. The pitch was waterlogged, it probably should have been called off but fans were already in the ground.
Had it continued raining I don’t think it would have finished. But sadly for us it did.

Probably because heat rises, unless these lights somehow defy physics

Honest question and not trying to be WUM loyal, you think that the club wants to call the games off right? What do they get from it being off?

Don't know how you'd cope on the continent when days of matches and kick off times aren't announced sometimes until days before the match for TV purposes.

Even in the Premier League, TV games are announced 10 to 12 weeks before hand, so essentially while the 'fixture list' is still there, the days and times of matches pretty much always change, no matter what league we're in.

Of course I don’t think the club wants games off but is it normal to call the ref in early to inspect?
What I do believe is the club called the pitch inspection because they had concerns over a late postponement which would have cost them considerably more.
In reality the pitch was probably playable at 3pm but they weren’t willing to take the risk and so suffered the consequences of getting the ref in early.
This is only my opinion of course

Yet some folk ONLY buy a season ticket based on a Saturday 3pm kickoff. The complete and utter outrage on here when the club suggested a 1pm kickoff.

This is a club that ain’t got a pot to pee in and folk think they can afford under soil heating and big tents :) on the base of one or two games being postponed a season .................imagine if the club had gone ahead and then things take a dramatic change for the worse what then ????
Seems whatever they do they will always get blamed whatever the situation

The complete and utter (and relentless) outrage on here by one poster when the club has to postpone fixtures for reasons outside of its control!

Not a bad thought Rod but proving the latter would almost be impossible. Weather is weather. It would be down to defining “ All reasonable steps” .

Water retention = deeper frost perhaps?

By the look of them, I'd say low energy light bulbs or some sort of toddlers dinosaur night light.

What's your point ? There wasn't a pitch inspection for the Rochdale match.
