Goodman signed his first pro deal in the summer and played a bit last pre-season so wouldn't be surprised if he gets a place on the bench at cover CB. I do worry that Tilt will be out with concussion as he didn't look right for a lot of that match and when coming off he seemed to signal it was an issue with his vision, if it is then that's him out for 2 weeks and us down to 3 CBs. Hopefully the swelling on Pennington's ankle can go down over the next 2 days so he can get back training for the weekend but from how Alexander sounded he didn't sound optimistic with how certain he was that Pennington would be out for Tuesday.

It feels like a game we could do without from a defensive perspective, unlike further up the pitch where there are players who need game time.

Got to think we might try for another CB. I listened to GA on Pennington as well and it didn't sound too positive, if he can't currently get a boot on because of the swelling.

 

I said last season you never have enough centre backs …….So GA should go down that route as circumstances are proving that theory correct?

 

Huntington still hasn't picked up a club, if we don't bring in another CB tomorrow and we still have an over 21 squad place I don't think it's the most unthinkable our out there that we might look to bring him back on a non-contract or short term deal if we need short term cover.

Dont think it be too far off that. Maybe 1 or 2 scholars on bench, plus the new man if he signs. Pennington might make bench if available. Too soon for Richards and Cook I expect.

 

Alexander said in a resent interview Huntington was training with Sheffield Wednesday but noting had been decided with regards his future, sounded like he was implying he could return if necessary as you say.

If he comes through training today without a hitch why not it's an ideal opportunity to get him involved at some point from the bench.

 

It's what this trophy's group stage should be all about. Get your lads fit, look at some youth. They are 3 free hits and I guess every club actually loses money in those 3 games even if they win all 3? The financial gain isnt until the last rounds, so might as well use it to give people minutes and take it seriously when you get to the knock outs.

 

Technically you could use them as a bounce game which Alexander often alludes too.

 

Rumours of Cook returning might sell a few tickets.

I'm surprised they haven't used the Newcastle game as a way to get some more in especially for those fans that will be on the edge of the loyalty points where 20 points could be the difference between being in the top 5000 or not.
