Of course everywhere has it good places Dave, undeniable and are great places to go , but it won’t hide the fact Liverpool is one of the most deprived big City’s in the UK.
The same can be said about London, a great place to visit, live there, work there and just see the underbelly and the place is scary, truly scary, even to me, in broad daylight!
Edmonton, Seven Sisters , Walthamstow , I could go on and on and on. Like I say let’s not call out Bradford as being a one off, which was my original point.

Yeah, I'm not entering the debate Kev, I just wanted to point out that the City centre in Liverpool is unrecognisable from 15 years ago and it's an amazing place to spend a few days now.

He's definitely not right. You can't change some thing that's in terminal decline. The world has changed and Bradford can't reinvent itself. Just wasting taxpayers money on stupid vanity projects with little return on that outlay.

Because Liverpool has the ability to grow and change, having the docks and the seafront is huge. Bradford has no selling point at all, it's a nice place out in the sticks but the area inside the old ring road has no reason to be other than to house a mainly low skilled workforce.

I disagree what I've lived through in my 70+ years in Bradford it will taker far more than 10 years to turn this once great City around too many sectors pulling different ways.

We had some fantastic architecture unfortunately past and present councils had little regards for the beauty that was Swan Arcade or Kirkgate Market two outstanding building that were sacrificed in the late 60s early 70 for the monstrosities that were built on the demolished site, very much like the down graded version of Broad Way, we were told would be the envy of many City's well we know how that panned out, the concrete box even dwarfing those two magnificent architectural building in the Old Post Office and the Bradford Cathedral, many of the magnificent mills being allowed to become dilapidated and eventually set fire too.

And even when Liverpool were threatened with their UNESCO World Heritage status being stripped they still thought of the future, once the new Everton ground at Bramley-Moore Dock is up and running more infrastructure is being developed in the vicinity and that should also become a very vibrant area, not just on match days.

You wont be disappointed with a weekend away in Liverpool especially as your a similar age to me and can remember those fantastic times in the 60s & 70s, we went for a Strawberry Fields weekend 2 years before before they were given the European Capital of Culture and there was loads of building work being done so you didn't get the full atmosphere that we found after once again visiting Liverpool several years later, even the bed and breakfast at the Adelphy didn't spoil our Strawberry Fields weekend and that was very much a great building in its day the Beatles renting a full floor in their hay day that needed plenty of LTC.

What’s wrong with Walthamstow? My daughter lives there. It’s a great place; really vibrant. Fantastic place to bring up kids. Unfortunately she and her young family are having to move further out because house prices are so high in Walthamstow, such is its desirability. Can’t buy a small three bedroomed house there now for under £800k.

Maybe on the front line dealing with the not so nice in society focuses one’s mind ? I had two years of it! I’ve had a gun pulled on me and heroin needle attack on my team and I at Wood St station so I’d say that’s worth a comment !

If you think Liverpool and Sheffield City centres are on a par or worse with Bradford City centre then you are seriously mentally unwell.

There are parts of Bradford that in my opinion are rancid shitholes, the council estates for example and parts like Leeds Road, Undercliffe, Girlington, White Abbey etc. if you get past those pits of despair it's quite nice, views all over West Yorkshire from up in the hills or down past Lister Park towards Shipley and beyond is as good as anywhere round a major city. It's just that inner city ring that's the problem or the overspill areas built after the war to move people out of the slums, which then became the slums themselves.

I was surprised how run down Newcastle town centre was when i was there to see Hawkwind.

Wandered up past the Eldon Centre and all the flags were wobbly, it just felt like something was going to kick off at any time.

Not nice at all. But tbf, Wood Street is definitely the grottiest part of Walthamstow. But there are much nicer parts, eg around the old village centre and where my daughter lives, next to Lloyd Park.

Is anybody involved in a business in Bradford that’s been asked to be a sponsor? I’m hearing £5k - anybody else know?
