Bowyer signs two year contract

It's pleasing to read of GB's immediate plans once the season finishes for the rebuilding of the squad.
His preference of big physical and athletic type players is also something that sits well with me, I will look forward to see his rebuild come into fruition.
However, I feel this strategy will somewhat be curtailed (at least for sometime) by the amount of contracted players that need shifting before his plans can be implemented. Even on the drip of one out one in, this will hamper his blueprint.
Am I reading too much into the difficulty of the action?

 

In addition - no matter how good a pre season we may (or may not) have ......... Teams take time to gel, be that two three or four games. It's just a pity the EFL Cup starts so early, those who have not yet gelled are more likely to be knocked out - UNLIKE the PL teams ......... of course !

 

I think like it or not we are going to have to incorporate some of the present players alongside the right new ones we can not afford to pay them all off

 

I would imagine GB's plans will revolve around the remaining contracted squad, who will eventually be replaced by better. But even so - He 'should' be in a position to recruit and fill these holes we've had all season.

If we can't get rid it wouldn't make sense to freeze them out, it will be the last year of some contracts it will do neither them or the club not to show what they are capable of.

I must have paid for at least 2 season tickets the way your missus rabbits on. Couldn't get a word in edgeways. She needs to sort her asthma out as well. All that heavy breathing is quite off putting.

 

I'd like rid of O'Donnell, Riley, O'Connor, Akpan, Wright, Scannell, Gibson, Robinson, Reeves, McCarten and Patrick.

I believe he did originally, although we will never be privy to what goes on at training some of the stories about the likes of Wright were shocking (if they are to be believed), on refection you could understand why the squad was split one bad apple is enough but to have more is not acceptable and I suggest that's why Hopkin had the likes of Wright, Jones, Patrick, Riley, Gibson train separately from the rest of the squad at times

 

Well, there's some scope for improvement. I'd keep Mellor, Wood, Staunton and O'Donnell (though only as back-up; he might then look elsewhere). I suspect Scannell, Doyle and Akpan would want to be away, though they could be an asset in League 2. Sykes-Kenworthy is worth keeping too if his potential is what we're led to believe. McCarten will go, and the Reeves and Robinson situations will be resolved. Gibson and Patrick can be loaned out somewhere or get other opportunities and I can't see O'Connor wanting to stay. Wright is a problem but there are always ways and means in these cases.
With a bit of luck we might have quite a bit of room for manoeuvre.

 

Get rid of O'Connor, Wright, Gibson, Robinson (if charged), Reeves, McCarten, Patrick.

Akpan I'm 50/50 on, I think he'd be decent next to a proper defensive midfielder but hes on a fair wage so I'm not fussed if he goes.

I'd keep O'Donnell without doubt. His save at Charlton was magnificent by the way.

Wood has potential to improve and I think he'll be fine in league 2. Riley is a tough one as hes probably been treated unfairly but if his attitude stinks then get rid. Although I'd be tempted to give him another chance.

I'd keep Mellor, Bowyer can get the best out of him although his injuries this year are a worry.

I also don't get all the hate for Scannell either. When he played he certainly didn't lack effort like some of the shirkers and it seems like he's had a genuine injury. Having said that I think he'll leave.

Doyle with a proper partner and in the right system will score goals too, without question. So I'd keep him too.

 

Agree on every point there. I think Doyle would he one of the most potent strikers in L2 with a big unit up front with him, a fit Scannell would surely be a decent supply line, and if were attempting to fill the team with bigger physical players, then Akpan would surely fit the mould in L2. They all bring experience which would be invaluable as do Mellor and O'Donnell. Just hope they have the right attitude and can be financially sustained.
