Football business is cruel with crap owners being allowed to get away with far too much. There should be massive consequences when clubs are ruined and stripped by greed!
Gutted for Bolton and Bury clubs, and fans.
Also saddened to see Parkinson reluctantly leave.

    Yep seen it!

‘In just over 24 hours, the club will have its membership of the EFL revoked. Over and above that, the club is currently not in a position to carry on trading and, as such, the process of closing down the company will commence on Wednesday.
This will ultimately lead to its liquidation, the expulsion of the club from the EFL and the inevitable loss of over 150 jobs. More than that, it will devastate a community for whom the football club is a beacon of hope and expectation’. https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2019/august/statement-on-behalf-of-paul-appleton-joint-administrator-for-bolton-wanderers4/

Which is why I cringe when people say it’s ok to run at an unmanageable debt. The efl are partly to blame for allowing these owners and also allowing them to sign players

I was one of the many calling for Rupp and Rahic to go. I don't know about the total mechanics of financing and running of a football club but I'm so glad the latter has stayed now.

Bolton and Bury won't be the last in deep trouble. Let's hope, with our financial pasts, that we don't have to endure a further threat of liquidation in the future

Agree they can't be blamless, surely the EFL could ask for some finacial guarentee as you do with a bond when you rent a property.
Once again its the fans who will pay for the past bad management of the club.

I certainly get the sentiment. History may yet record that Edin's legacy may yet prove to be a successful one, in that he brought Stefan in with him and then left him to run the Club properly.

But I would bet none of those fans cared a toss when Eddie Davies was throwing £171 M into the club.

To cover wages for the length of the contracts or at least a year. Anyone taking over would just pay them the bond back. Normal businesses don’t aim to run at a loss for so long so football is an unusual case

You keep making this comparision, fans were not in control of what Eddie Davies did, yes they would have been on cloud 9 Premiership and Europe just as we all do thought sucsess would never end.
We had a taste of suscess and failure under Geoffrey Richmond, the question was asked at the unvieling of Benni Carbone, how can we afford his wages to which Richmond replied "we havent paid a transfer fee" then continuing to tell the assembled fans "I will never do anything to jeopardise the future of Bradford City" that went well.
Yes you always want the owner to spend his brass, but lets not forget the riches that clubs get from being a Premiership club, and I would think an owner/ owners take a good % dividend money wise.

The ELF seem to be bending over backwards to save Bolton, while at the same time they have thrown Bury to the wolves as an"example"of what other clubs can expect if they don't get their finances in order.

I believe the adminstrator said they would start liquidating today if no deal was struck. However, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy up all the bits than to make an offer for a going concern and take on certain liabilities such as leases and employment contracts. If you have two weeks, you can go to the EFL and say you've bought everything up and can have the club running again in two weeks so keep the golden share. I'm not saying this will happen, though. It might be cheaper buy it's very high risk. There is also the possibility that the buyer that did not complete at the weekend might inject a small amount of cash to stave off liquidation for a few days to allow further negotiations.

There is still a strong posibility that Bolton might fold today, though.

It's because Bolton have been in talks with the same company since May.

Bury owner was allegedly turning down offers/deals so maybe was looking for a cash return which is wrong considering he brought it for a pound.

    That's the difference mate.
