I was suitabley impressed with how we went about it today. Bolton had the posession but we were able to make the chances count in the end. Billy Clarke can be the creative force and his sublime chip early on had the keeper clawing it over just. There were good signs all round. Novak toiling away up front and getting his goal. Great ball from Watt out to French to provide the cross for it. Watt did lots of neat short passes on the ball as well. Nothing risky just ticked away in there.

At that back Paudie O'Connor pretty much cleared everything that came his way. In this three we could have a makings of a defensive understanding ?

Reece Staunton is in the Rhys Burke mould. Not afraid to get on the ball and play forward. Hes a bit of a "rolls royce" type in the making for me ?. Cannot see an immediate way back for BRE who is nowhere near in terms of footballing ability.

French caught the eye pressed into service as a make shift wing back. Should keep his place on that show.

Not a big fan of Pritchard tbh so was questioning Clarke being taken off. But fair play he gets on the end of it for the second. Then we just had to see it out which we did

Contrary to my prediction we make the 2nd Round draw and that might throw up interestimg opposition ?

Not getting carried away at all; we do need some pace up top for sure. I But as starts go that were'nt bad.

Do you think the squad is any stronger or weaker than last season? Based on what you watched today was it an improvement on the average performances of last season?

Im getting far from carried away and 100% agree today’s win is nothing other than a shot of confidence. That said, there were some passages of play today that were breath of fresh air versus the dross weve seen for the past two seasons. At least it’s an indication we might be starting to move in the right direction.

Just read his comment in the Bolton news, it's comedy gold. Basically, in his opinion, everyone's forgetting the goal of the season they scored and 60% possession means they're the bestest team ever. Most have been in a coma when we should have had three or four by half time.
Evatt sounds like another Graham Westley.

Well, after seeing them look piss poor against us in the cup they turn in another inept performance in their defeat to FGR, and Doyle fails to find the net again. Evatt giving it the big un in every interview doesn't help them, the shite he came out with after we beat them suggests to me he believes his own hype too much for his own good. That 3 year contract for Doyle will be a mill stone round their necks.

It doesn’t take a footballing expert to identify which players are considered to be decent or not; you’ve only got to look at where they have been plying their trade for the last couple of season’s and why they’re no longer where they are.

    For example:

Eoin Doyle - Great coupe, but heavily reliant on him replicating his Swindon form. Baring in mind, only Wellens has been able to turn him into a lower league, goal scoring prowess in recent years - that long contract and large wages could be financial suicide.

Antonio Sarcevic - signing of the summer. Great player.

George Taft - Solid League Two CB, nothing more. Injury prone, too.

Brandon Comley - holding midfielder, who has consistently finished mid/lower-mid table (L2)

Liam Gordon - Finished last season on-loan at Conference South side, Dartford.

Ricardo Santos - apart from having a fancy name, if he wasn’t sitting on the bench for Barnet in the league below, he was injured.

Reiss Greenidge - Played a bit of football in Norway‘s third division. Prior to this, he was at Hemmel Hempstead - in the Conference South.

Gethin Jones - Welsh RB, who I feel could have done a job at City - steady signing.

Nathan Delfouneso - thought to be partnering Doyle upfront. He isn’t mobile enough to create the chances or space for Doyle to flourish - unlike Jerry Yates when at Swindon. Has never hit double figures in his career.

Matt Gilks - 16 appearances in 3 years.

Jak Hickman - got binned off by Coventry for being a tit on social media whilst away on holiday. Spent last season at Bromsgrove Sporting - Southern League - 4 levels below League Two.

Alex Baptiste - experience aplenty. 11 appearances in 3 years, though.

Jamie Mascoll - young LB from Wycombe. Played 9 times last season. Season prior he played for Dulwitch Hamlet - 2 leagues below L2.

They do, however, have some decent youngsters of their own. Dennis Politic being one, but he’s injured. They have just signed a young striker from Enfield - scored plenty last season - in the Isthmian League Prem

Give me Ali Crawford and Antonio Sarcevic, other than that, they’ve signed a load of garbage. But hey, they could have some real bargains - “light years ahead of us”.

If we had signed that lot, this forum would be in overdrive.

With the 2nd round due to take place week commencing 14 September, one bonus with Saturday's win is that Levi Sutton will now only miss two league matches, with the League Cup 1st and 2nd rounds making up the rest of his four match suspension.

Interesting cos I was thinking earlier about how SM in the past at City certainly likes his teams to keep the ball and how we could play possession ball like Bolton and then I recalled that during the game we were much more in the final 3rd than they were and maybe SM has tweaked his style to attack quicker? If so I like that a lot.

He said you were a misguided individual who could redeem himself by buying the club and ground, building a world class football academy and giving all BT members free ST's and beer for ever

Doyle and Delo are joint top scorers pre season but even fans saying nothing after them. Signed 15 players and loaned some kids out. Think Peter Atherton is the brains behind Evatt, Barrow made big effort to keep him.
I've said before not impressed by owner but now Peter Kenyon has appeared, a shark in my personal opinion Think they might not be as good as they think and fans moaning about Evatt after pre season. My bet? Admin by Jan.

Bolton are like us last season, I dont think they've hit the bottom yet. I think they'll struggle as Evatt is a complete unknown in terms of football league management experience. Couple that with a very inexperienced squad, they aint as good as some think.

That's a great controlled header from Pritchard, and a cracking ball in from AOC. Two well worked goals from City today

Are you forgetting how long it takes us to gel?

Some seasons it takes all 46 league games, and we're still not quite there.
