The big issue is why was there such a divergence of views between the referee and Barrow.

Perhaps there needs to be an independent assessor who reviews the whole incident?

lf Barrow are of the view that the pitch was fine, then they should not take any action before the next game. A second referee can then review the conditions.

lf Barrow have lodged a formal complaint, then as part of the process, the EFL and FA should send a formal reviewer to inspect the pitch and also the process as to how the decision was arrived at.

To do ‘nothing’ is the worst case scenario. At the very latest the pitch should have undergone a formal inspection on Monday, with Barrow agreeing to take no action to improve the area in the intervening time.

The report and opinion of the review should be made public. At the very least there is a moral obligation. All the people who went to the match should have a right to know.

What a load of nonsense all EFL refs are full time

In doing so, England became the first country in the world to fully professionalise its referees. The organisation is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee owned and funded by the Premier League, EFL, and the FA.

Professional Game Match Officials Limited, which was formed in 2001, leads a team of 79 Select Group referees who are full-time professional match officials.

League Two referees are not full time Kevin.

Premier League and Championship refs are.

That’s great thank you, so the EFL handbook is misleading somewhat.? Where do these self employed referees fit within the wholly owned professional referee business mentioned ? Do they then contract themselves out to this “ business” .
Apologies to @bantamlad92@bantamlad92 , clearly if accurate , I am wrong, you were correct.

Don’t think it will sell out. There will be hundreds of refund requests.
No trains available to get home after the game either.

Edit. How much does it cost to charter a train from Shipley to Barrow return same day.

    Triffic

Hopefully they do a 5pm pitch inspection this time if needs be. Think of the fans for a bloody change, but I very much doubt they will

Also by April 9th we will pretty much know if we're in with a chance of the play-offs or not. Another massive influence on how many fans decide to travel

That’s a very good point. I think refunds should only be available for a limited time to stop people holding onto them until our play off chances are determined.
It gives other fans a chance to get tickets who are willing to take a chance on us being in the play off mix.

It is something that needs fixing and investing in. It's ridiculous that we still have professional leagues which are getting faster every year with semi pro referees. Ultimately this is their extra bit of income and even then it's not that much when you consider they have to either use their paid holidays to referee a lot of games or take unpaid leave from their full time jobs often at very short notice. The referee from the Barrow game Tom Nield worked as a nurse in the NHS and when covid was starting he had to pull out of a game just before they were stopped as he couldn't do both jobs https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11970748/tom-nield-the-efl-referee-battling-coronavirus-on-the-nhs-frontline.

Some are lucky and they will be able to get a job with their local County FA as a referee coach or referee development officer so they can work on a flexible contract which expects then to be also active referees. Because of them being part time there are good referees to stop going for promotion around step 2/3 when it goes from regional to National as they can't afford to take lots of days off work. Also for the referees if they don't get selected for a game they don't get paid so like in a couple of weeks when there's a full fixture list they only find out a week Monday before the game so they've got to decide whether to book time off work and potentially not get a game or hope they can get time off at late notice.

It’s poor for sure BB. The more you look behind the EFL waffle the worse it gets.
