Barrow (A)

A couple of seasons ago me and the grandson went up town Horsfall to watch Avenue play Barrow and it was like something from the 70s a gang of about 30 Barrow fans running amok around anyone who would question their antics, the Avenue fans around us just looked bemused with the Barrow fans goading.

 

Pretty certain last time I went we were singing "even the bad times are good" by the Tremeloes, and was picked up by the press

 

Just checked the P&O timetable..... bloody cheap ticket prices if you book early enough.

 

Worst away end in England. Even worse than Gillingham

 

Barrow. Fml how are we playing teams like this again? No disrespect but Barrow. Awful.

Gotta get out of this league next season

 

Be even worse if Harrogate get promoted .

 

Make me smile mate with regards Barrow etc we've been to some right dumps years ago, Southport, Barrow, Workington , Springfoeld Park Wigan, Chester, Wrexham.

 

Don't forget though Bronco. When we were playing the likes of Barrow and Workington, Valley Parade was also a dump

 

Correct that's why I'm not one for thinking our club is a big club because we have a good ground (compared with many lower league clubs) and get very good home attendances, some very enjoyable times at many clubs who have since gone out of the league.

 

It was a complete dump remember the old toilets at the back of the Kop and the trough in the Midland road shed what would fans complaining today there is no hot water make of them !!!
May have been a dump but it sure had character

 

Remember the trough in Midland Rd shed well, and the toilets behind scoreboard on the Kop.

They certainly had 'character' 4th division grounds when I first started going to away games early 70s

 

Health and Safety would have had a field day with the old kop toilets , steep steps , no lighting and icy in winter , an accident waiting to happen.
I would not have classed Wrexham’s ground as a dump , even in the 60s it was a cut above most in the lower divisions.

 

Been to watch Workington a few times lately , to be fair its not changed a great deal.

 

Its all good and well sayng we lack ambition because we're looking forward to trips to Barrow and possibly Halifax or Harrogate. But we are where we are and we have to take what's in front if us.
I've been watching City for the last 35 years. And for the majority of that time we've been a mediocre lower division club. Whats kept me and the other die hards going during that time is trips to Rotherham, Bransley, Bolton, Bury et al. Not Liverpool or Man Utd. Those are reserved for FA Cup 3rd round draws.
So, its all right saying we lack ambition and despairing about our perceived love of the mediocre. But its that which has kept this club going for over 100 years.

 

Ye maybe Wrexham was the best of the above I quoted.
