i'm not sure. We don't have one midfielder who would get a start in league 1, these are average league 2 midfielders. Look where they've all come from. If we did go up i wouldn't expect any of them to be good enough.

I think it's hard to make judgements on the midfielders when they're in a team like ours. They have no options to pass the ball forwards because the movement is non existent and they dont drive forwards with the ball because they're ordered to stick to their position. That and the gap between the midfield unit and the strikers is beyond ridiculous, just as it was at orient. And that is clearly on instruction, so their passing choice is severely limited. I've seen enough in Cooke and Reeves to know they have 3 or 4 gears still to go up but aren't allowed. Taylor is appaling and Palmer's injury looks to have had a bad effect on him as well as him playing next to his clone Reeves. So I agree, they aren't performing, but there are mitigating factors.

Why are the players slow to start and unsure of the systems? I have to question the wisdom of giving the squad a couple of days off following the festive clutch of matches. They need to be worked harder and certainly become more effective in their individual roles imo. They appear managerless and leaderless at times and this must impact on confidence. Time for personal appraisal and if January allows, a nudge to get us back on track, with a bit more conviction in our performances. With everyone playing to their strengths we stand a better chance of picking up momentum and with key players returning we just need quality management to gain improvement.

I agree that it doesn't help but i've seen nothing in any of them to suggest they should be playing a division higher. Especially when i saw the likes of Cullen and O'Brien for the first time, its clear what players have sometimes. Taylor is suddenly the easy target but the others don't look any better than him. If everyone was fit i'd play 2 in front of the back four, either Reeves, Cooke or Palmer with Taylor. I'd then go with Pritchard flanked by Connolly/Ismail/ Deviitt/Gibson, any combination as none of them are any better than each other, all average league 2 players. Then Donaldson upfront. Players like Doyle, Vaughan and McCartan to a lesser degree have potential but would struggle with our midfield.

I suppose Bowyer just wanted to reward the players. To go eight games unbeaten, fight back for him at Swindon and show some character, and put ourselves right in the promotion mix before Saturday, wasn't a bad run (despite some frustrating away results and performances). I guess he thought the players deserved a little breather before kicking on again into the rest of the month. A few days off isn't going to set them back physically, we're midway through the season and they should be fine tuned, but mentally it is just a little boost to spend some time with the family and not have to trek in to training at a wet and miserable Apperley Bridge on a Monday.

He obviously had a throat infection maybe that's why in the pictures I posted he was not in his unusual traing gear but well wrapped up with a long coat hood up and scarf round his mouth, but there was little positivity he could take from yesterday dire performance.
That's not to say he gets of scot free yesterday was possibley the best bench we've had for a while, for me at half time BRE would have gone replaced by Paudie the two central defenders we like two strangers both going for the same ball etc.
We got off lightly from the header from Palmer that rattled the cross bar unfortunatly that was a sign of what more was to come.

Although it doesn't go down well on here Leeds are a BIG club who when they show any sort of form can draw 30,000 +, I think they will make the Premiership this season but I don't think they will compete with the big clubs unlike my son in law, although there is talk of big investment from various sources.

Another issue is not being able to have a settled midfield. It seems every week that one or more are unavailable. Too many changes lead to unfamiliarity, but it’s hard to blame him for that when we’ve had so many injuries.

When you look at the stats it easy to see that the better players have been missing for a fair proportion of the season.

Injuries in midfield have killed him this season, i don't think we've had one midfielder available for every game. Couple that with Donaldson and its tough. No coincidence the defence looks good when they've all been mostly available.

Cooke, Prichard and Reeves. The latter is young and will get better. Prichard has shown himself to be good at this level, so no reason to think why he can't and Reeves was always a good L1 player and I fail to see why that wouldn't continue. Put another way, if Reeves leaves at the end of the season - I can see him been in L1

L1 isn't littered with outstanding midfield players

And yet no interest in them from league 1 teams despite being in joint third. Cooke possibly if he's played in the position he claims is his natural position which is further forward. Reeves and Pritchard? Maybe, who knows.

Reeves is out of contract at the end of the season and has just come back from two years out. I'll be amazed if he doesn't end up at a L1 club next season (hopefully us of course :)) as when he first came back he showed some of those qualities

That's the frustrating part when he started against Mansfield he had a very credible game during his 70+ minutes and I believe won MOTM, so many including myself thought the more game time the better he would get, against Morecambe he was one of our better players, yet he he seems to have dropped off since then although his midfield partner has been Palmer in those games.
I prefer Mellor to Henley and when fit I'd expect Henley to make way, both fullbacks offered little going forward yesterday, frustration is an understatement.

We urgently need to sign a new RB for me. Both not good enough.

Reeves is playing like he's ticking boxes and passing time bit like Payne last season. Needs dropping.

I'm amazed that Reeves has lasted as many games as he has, without a 'recharge'. No games in two years and then more or less two games a week for weeks and a bug - no wonder he looks off the pace. Bowyer, should be resting him, he's making the same mistake Stuart made just before his injury, i.e. playing players when they're not quite right. Problem I think Reeves probably kicks the cat whenever he is 'rested'

Henley's terrible. He's lining up for the worst right back ever award (happy for someone to remind me of a worse one!!). He's so bad, I'd pay £50 if it meant Mellor was guaranteed to play on Saturday , which tells you everything when you realise how average Mellor has been at times

Actually, Henley shouldn't play at all on Saturday and Bowyer should simply cover his absence in some way

I'd play Mellor when fit, simply because we need far more of a physical presence. Actually, I wouldn't say no to him playing as CDM and then, yes, perhaps getting another RB on loan

You can tell how bad a player is, i.e. Henley, when everyone agrees how rubbish he is

He's no worse than Palmer, both were poor yesterday hopefully Reeves being taken of was a fitness thing rather than Bowyer having his favorites, but that's no excuse for yesterdays performances.
