It was all predictable stuff and in fairness to Jamie, he didn't hold back with his questions.

    On today's game ...

Today wasn't good enough in final 3rd just like previous 2 games
Hit twice on the break and resulted in defensive errors
Had possession but couldn't build on that
Can't put finger on why we weren't successful (!)
    Some players are lacking confidence
Need more strength next season and squad has to improve
    Morecambe had more energy today
    We lacked the killer instinct
We've been stale after securing safety

    Going forward ....

We can build on the core of contracted players for next season
Need more quality in key areas
Clear on who is staying and those who are leaving
I know with better players and a bit more experience we can push for promotion
We've had a run of poor results but showed we can do it in earlier good run of form!
Already working hard to bring new players in.
We want to defend well and attack well and identified players who can do that who couldn't join in January
Feel let down by some players and some individuals outlook changed after we secured our league status.
Want to make the team hard to beat!

None of that should come as a surprise to anybody and in his own way, Trueman has a plan for next season. But the big question remains whether he and/or Conor will be here to deliver it. I know he has a monotone form of delivery in an interview and rarely gets excited. But he didn't fill me with any confidence that he'll be at VP much longer. We'll see!

We need a public statement of intent from the club. What is the aim for next season, how are we going to get there? Sorry but Trueman and Sellars need to return to the u18 coaching roles (if available). Ruthless, we need to be ruthless.

We can blame them as much as we like but the players get off too lightly these days they are responsible for their own performances. If they have taken their foot off the gas once safe to protect them selves for a move I'm not sure how you can change that mindset. You could drop them but if the players that would be coming in aren't up to it essentially you end up with the same result which is poor performances.

I'm not giving the players a pass either. Its a poor squad. There needs to be a big overhaul, players and manager.

Thanks. Really pi$$ed to hear that they played players who they knew were not really trying. Should have dropped them and blooded some of the youngsters. I do not mind losing if the team has at least had a go.

So Rowe was one of them then? Who else? Wood?

Another overhaul needed but at some point we've got to get it right. I'd like to get rid of all the players who came down from league 1 or have relegation on their CV. Kiwomya was right in the interview, get players in who've won promotions and know how to do it. We've too many who drop their heads when the going gets tough.

Interesting. I immediately thought of Wood when Trueman made that comment. And then thought but who would replace him if he were to be dropped? There's no obvious replacement imo without weakening the team further.

Equally I've no idea whether blaming the players for this isn't him protecting himself from criticism for failing to motivate the squad sufficiently well. That's part of the call which Sparky will have to make very soon.

It really is time for a change in how players are paid. X amount for basics , X amount for first team appearance and the rest on performance. You still can not gaurantee wining games, but at least they would try in every match. Never happen though. Footballers way of life is too comfortable.

Never again will I trust anyone who says that they will only bring in players that have the right attitude and fit for our Club...well they didn't and have failed at the first hurdle in my opinion. Compounded by the involvement of Turnbull. Will be interesting to hear from Sparks if he has to defend these appointments.

Foulds? Weve no idea what the impact would've been, but its a bigger decision than the individual. As soon as you tolerate someone not giving 100%, you weaken the mentality of the team as a whole and completely undermine your position as manager.

I felt a bit for MT in the interview and to be fair to him he answered every question honestly and didnt lose his rag. Sadly it doesnt reflect well on him and Sellars that some of the players lost their focus once we were safe - yes it must have been very frustrating for them as managers but its the big difference between developing players in the youth set up and continually needing to achieve results with the first team.
Thank goodness a lot of these players will be leaving - if their mentality is only capable of a backs to the wall survival this in my mind is not being brave - any decent coach and players can be set up to be more difficult to beat. Bravery comes in a winning mentality, in being prepared to create and convert, in saying a game that is 1-1 with 10 minutes to go is a game to be won. Andy K on radio Leeds said when T&S came in we tightened the 50% that is the defensive part of the game and nicked games, but we have totally failed on the whole in the other 50% that involves an attacking mentality to take games to the opposition.
I know Mark said a lot is already happening re plans for next season and I know this tallies with what a scout told me last week about our approaches to players - but Ryan now has to make a quick and bold decision to either throw his weight and support behind T&S despite the abysmal end to the season or thank them for achieving the pretty limited ambition of League 2 survival and get in a hard nosed but successful manager who will have the full close season to build his own team. Either way he needs to do it NOW and either way he will live or die by this decision, more than ever we need you to get this right Ryan

Reading the last couple of pages, I do wonder what went off in terms of the playing personnel especially when we consider the Danny Rowe situation.
I'd like to know why the players lost their focus from a fantastic run of results.
You are absolutely correct that the players get off lightly.

once we were safe , if certain players did give up and just go through the motions as suggested. Drop them and play the kids, at least they would try. If my staff did this , warnings , then out of the door. As i said , too easy for these guys to just turn up and very little the clubs can do about it.

I listened to a podcast with Martin Allen and he was talking about when he had gone to a new club can't remember which team. He basically said that when he arrived the whole club needed to change its mentality from negative cheap and crap club ie they had bibs but they were crap, they had the training facilities but they were crap. I feel like we have had that for a while the whole mentality of the club including fans is negative on the whole. Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming fans the stuff we have seen has been poor it has to be driven by the club and unfortunately it does cost money. They need to commit and not accept anyone bringing the place down.

Obviously we're unlikely to get to know and I doubt that anyone at the club will name names but if i had to guess. Rowe wasn't happy with game time and made it blooming obvious he wanted to go possibly being disruptive. Some having been told that they wouldn't discuss contacts until the end of the season have had agents telling them not to take any risks so they can get a new club in the summer. If that's the way they react to that news rather than having the mindset to give it everything to get the new contract I'm fine with them going. Can you imagine someone like Gary Jones reacting like that because I can't and that's the types we need!

We've heard this hollow claim season after season. Was Rowe's attitude right? Clearly not. Our continued claims about only trying to get in players with 'the right attitude' are about as worthless as the Premier and EFL's 'fit and proper persons' check for new club owners. Total bollocks.
