We create so few chances it's embarrassing. Hard to know whether that's due to how the team is set up and coached, or whether the players are just not good enough. I suspect it's a bit of both. So often in recent games we go backwards because players can't do basic professional football skills like making a simple forward pass with their weaker foot. And the decision making is frequently dire. But I'm finding it difficult to be confident that T&S have the know-how to take us up next season, even with better players.

 

This is why sadly I’ll be cheering Morecambe on today, I want a manager who never settles and always looks for more. If we secure automatic promotion we should be going for the title etc.

The managers settled and it’s shown in the last 10 games with some pathetic and lethargic performances, disgraceful to be so happy with survival regardless of where we were which was still technically outside the drop zone so it’s hardly the great escape. You’d think we were dead and berried and just beat Liverpool to stay up way they go on about going on a good run to get us to mid table in the khazi league then been appalling for the final third of the season.

 

I'm gonna cut Trueman a bit of slack in that in my opinion this squad was never good enough to challenge for the playoffs. when he took over at second bottom the team couldn't score but also looked like letting at least three a game in. I'd say its nigh on impossible to then make this completely failing team turn around at both ends of the pitch. Importantly, what he did do straight away was make us hard to beat and defensively sound through the side, taking our chances if and when they came.

The players seemed to respond to this pragmatic approach until what was the killer, the Newport game. It was after that defeat the confidence and strutting around of certain players disappeared, couple this with the loss of Callum Cooke and we never recovered. All this talk from the fans about 'letting the handbrake off' and other similar comments, you can't really do that with a team thats shown little attacking prowess all season. Its something the team needs to have in their armoury from the start of the season, and i know from Truemans comments as the season comes to close that he realises we don't have the attacking quality in the squad to do that.

Having said that after the seasons has now ended, would i keep them on as managers. My instincts tell me the City job is a bigger animal than the two young lads and needs a certain type of manager to appease an ever increasingly frustrated fanbase. That said, i don't think any manager could have got promoted after been handed the shitshow at the start of the season by Rupp and Rhodes. McCall to some extent was hung out to dry despite his questionable tactics, we can only hope Sparks has more of an ambition of success than Rupp and captain Admin ever did.

My happy clapper enthusiasm is wearing off, I’m starting to agree with Fordy, give me a reason to stay positive!! I’m even starting to doubt my stoic support for T&S!!

 

I felt a bit for MT in the interview and to be fair to him he answered every question honestly and didnt lose his rag. Sadly it doesnt reflect well on him and Sellars that some of the players lost their focus once we were safe - yes it must have been very frustrating for them as managers but its the big difference between developing players in the youth set up and continually needing to achieve results with the first team.
Thank goodness a lot of these players will be leaving - if their mentality is only capable of a backs to the wall survival this in my mind is not being brave - any decent coach and players can be set up to be more difficult to beat. Bravery comes in a winning mentality, in being prepared to create and convert, in saying a game that is 1-1 with 10 minutes to go is a game to be won. Andy K on radio Leeds said when T&S came in we tightened the 50% that is the defensive part of the game and nicked games, but we have totally failed on the whole in the other 50% that involves an attacking mentality to take games to the opposition.
I know Mark said a lot is already happening re plans for next season and I know this tallies with what a scout told me last week about our approaches to players - but Ryan now has to make a quick and bold decision to either throw his weight and support behind T&S despite the abysmal end to the season or thank them for achieving the pretty limited ambition of League 2 survival and get in a hard nosed but successful manager who will have the full close season to build his own team. Either way he needs to do it NOW and either way he will live or die by this decision, more than ever we need you to get this right Ryan

Hope Morecambe get the result today that sees them promoted. Can't knock what that football club have achieved this season.

Totally agree Wilsden. If we have real ambition for next season, we shouldn't give a xxxx who else is in our league. We should be the strongest, the most feared, the club that will bully everyone else. That's the job T&S, Turnbull and Sparks have over the summer.

If you c0ck up at your end don't be looking at us to do you a favour. 1 point from the last 6 six games and 4 goals in 8 games suggests you're gonna have to do it yourselves.

 

Do a Man Utd and 100's of city fans make it a weekend by the sea then invade the pitch before the match starts.

Actually, leave 11 fans on the pitch and give our players a rest.... we might have a better chance of winning haha.

 

And therein lies the problem with a 4231 in League Two. The two key players are the 9 & 10 and there just aren't enough around who will take what a L2 club pays to make it work.

Callum Cooke shows potential but he cant play the 10 as he cant shoot on target and Cook is a great 9 but needs a second striker. Both would be better in a different formation.

 

A sense of mediocrity and lack of anything resembling ambition infests everything about this club.

Well Jamie is giving Mark a hard time and although I have sympathy for the guy he hardly sounds convincing.

 

If they couldn't motivate a team into a promotion charge when the chance was there this season, why would they be able to do it next?
