The whole armband thing was Drury's making imo yet he never receives any of the flak that gets bandied about when the subject comes up. AOC made two mistakes. First he should have refused the armband in the dressing room. Second he shouldn't have come up/gone along with the ridiculous stitching excuse that insulted everyones intelligence. (I suspect that was Drury's idea as well). It was a disastrous day all round but the real architect of it got off lightly and AOC cops for it every time.

Bet Drury is the guy in the mask at the end of Scooby Doo too.

 

Whatever he is, it's a disgrace he's still employed by the club. How can he survive after the shambles of last year which he was part of the coaching staff for. He should've gone as soon as Collins went.

 

Or Drury is actually a decent number 2/coach who was working under 3 very poor managers(management team) who made terrible tactical decisions that really affected the team?

 

I agree @Dennis ....... And I for one am guilty (sorry). But when threads become repetitive, some light hearted 'fun' can soon break that up.
Much as some may not agree, but I think the banter (tension relief) is fast declining on this Forum.

How do you know this stuff?
You seem to have a lot of knowledge about what went on in the dressing room and who made decisions about what.
In what sense was Armbandgate Drury's making? What makes you think that the ridiculous stitching excuse originated from Drury? Where are you getting this information about what went on behind the scenes?
Most supporters have no idea about this stuff. How come you do?

 

It wasn't a question of causing offence. Now that you've explained your reasoning your original post makes more sense. Your first reply to my questioning just made it sound like you were making things up but I can now see that wasn't the case. I still think it's a leap to suggest he should be getting flak for something that we don't fully know about, but at least I understand where you're coming from.
Let's leave it there.

 

The lack of anyone knowing anything about what happened hasn't abated the flak AOC received though has it. Even now we're getting far more outlandish claims saying it was part of a much larger campaign that AOC waged to undermine everything at the club. No-one challenges this though. Hippo voices his thoughts on the subject that dares to put forward alternative ideas in a fairly passive way and exacting levels of scrutiny suddenly apply.

 

Paudie will be watching BRE's great heading and tackles with awe but he'll be learning how to organise the back 4, keep a cool head and manage forwards out of the game from AoC. He's my player of the year so far. Nobody has been as consistently good. If you make defending a bit dull, you are doing it really well.

 

I thought yesterday was the best performance I've seen from him in a city shirt. I'd still though like to play Paudie at the back and AOC in midfield for Akpan at the moment whilst we have injuries.

 

The armband thing I can't forgive him for but unlike @JonButterfield i am willing to understand that last season Edin and others were effecting the club. Having Hopkin as manager wouldn't have helped matters.

AOC has been decent this season but let's not go extra he still needs to go to the next level that I am sure he's capable of.

 

The next level should apply to all not just O'connor

 

You could break anything down to meaningless materialism, but it doesn't make any sense.

It's like burning all your money and saying 'I don't see what the problem is, it's just a material', or demolishing your own house and wondering why the missus is going nuts and saying 'its just bricks and timber, who cares', or more aptly, destroying your marriage certificate and saying 'its just some paper, less value than an elasticated piece of cloth'.

The argument doesn't fly, at all.

 

It's not a comparison. It's an illustration of what happens when you break something down to it's material meaninglessness. Which you can do with anything. I'm illustrating how you could do the same with money.

 

The Pakistani flag is just "a piece of material", how about you pop into Bradford next home game and walk up and down on it. Or nip over to America and do the same with the 'stars and stripes'?

It isn't what the armband is, it's what it represents and I'm really not sure why you can't understand that?

Yes, I'd agree with that. Collins and Hopkin were both pretty clueless and Bowyer was never going to keep us up given what had gone before. But all of them were trying to make a silk purse out of the sow's ear of a squad that Rahic saddled them with in his close season madness.
