If you would like to contribute to the yearly running costs of a forum like this you can become a supporter for the measly sum of £10 per year or the £1 per month option and be advert free

 

Posting more is also a good way to decrease ads. While average resource usage per user is pretty much the same the size of both the unregistered users and what are basically the lurkers (those who are registered and read posts but who do contribute to discussions) means that those two groups use up the most resources by a long way (and hence incur the most costs). So we show these two user groups more ads (Unregistered see more than the Lurkers) as that allows us to show those who do contribute to discussions fewer ads. Forums rely on posts so if we can keep people who are contributing ad usage down to a minimum its win win for everyone.

Now I won't give specifics because that might just encourage spam but once you have been a member for a certain amount of time and have made a certain number of posts (to weed out the spammers) you become eligible for the active user group. You are placed in that group if in the last 35 days you have reached a certain threshold in contributing to discussions. It's a figure that isn't that hard to achieve and gets you much fewer ads.

So that's the easiest and cheapest way to reduce ads. Share your opinion on things. Take part in the match thread both before, during and after a match or join in any other discussion. Even entering the prediction league each week will help you move towards what is required

You should be getting very few ads if you are logged in as you are in the active user group

 

You are in the subscriber group so get no ads. If your sub ended right now though you would qualify as an active user and get limited ads

But basically we had users having issues with the ads which might be related to some changes Google made so I'm rebuilding the ads from scratch with updated ad code but while I'm doing that ads may appear for everyone this evening while I get the ads back in place and the right conditional loops in place
