See the season out with us then move even closer to home at Harrogate.
Just grabbing what he can before he hangs up the boots. Doing nothing wrong in that and hopefully in the right system he can improve us and help the younger ones around him.
We needed a CM and now we have one.

 

Donny fan here,

A good move for Clayton and for us, he wasn’t getting game time and he probably wants a new deal/better options at the end of the season. Schofield has come in and dropped him but we’re playing better football now than we did under Wellens/McSheffrey.

My view is if he plays anything like he has for us, your fans will be on his back pretty quickly.

- Drops deeper and deeper as the game goes on, often ended up between our 2 CB’s by the 60th minute.
- Wants to take every free kick but his delivery isn’t that great.
- If he is closed down quickly, you might as well sub him off.

- Great to have around the club
- Great leader on the pitch
- Great to have around young players

If he’s in your starting XI I’ll be happier as a Donny fan pushing you for a playoff spot.

I’ll nip on every now and again and gladly apologise at the end of the season if I’m wrong.

…..Overall I was surprised yet so happy to see this news today.

Remember his debut I think it was at Peterborough. Played well. Was tidy and organised for us I thought

 

He's perfect for us then. We love giving pay days to washed up, previously higher level players.

 

We were relegated that season. Not much of a success story....

 

He played for Swindon and they were skint in League 2. He got them promoted.

 

we are a Div 2 club. We are not going to get higher players who arent washed up or have baggage

 

Yes I remember him being in the same team as Doyle and watched a few of their games, he was very much a part of their promotion team.

 

Other clubs seem to be able to secure players on the way up. Indeed, we seemed to go that way at the start of the season, before getting bored with it inside a few weeks.

 

This team needed a experienced player who can push those on their way up (like Wright, Peiera, Lewis, Costello, Banks, Nevers, Critchlow, Foulds etc) when the going gets tough.

 

I absolutely support the idea of us needing some experience and leadership. Its been lacking. That's not really my issue. My worry is more that we have an awful record of signing aged pro's who've slipped down the leagues. And the reaction from their fans worries me. I have a bad feeling about this one.

Having never seen him play for City or eaten a chicken kebab I will abstain from the poll.

 

The differences that concern me:

1. Gary Jones played all his career at L1/2 level; he was dropping down and he was still performing
2. Rochdale wanted to keep him. Their fans were gutted when he left.

 

When we played Donny at home they were total gash and I'm not surprised he ended up dropping deeper and deeper.

 

Its frustrating. That team we had in Div 1 was more than capable of staying up.

 

We already had Cook, Oliver, Smallwood, Ridehalgh, Gillead, Halliday and Walker all with over 200 pro career appearances in their locker.
