On the basis that Jon suggests that we have few saleable assets, irrespective of the sound Bites and potentially could run up losses, then why would you question why a poster would buy a ST?

I'm definitely not a fan of development squads, but that's completely separate.

I've been calling for two things for a couple of years; a Director of Football and a professional off-the-field team that would naturally include a scouting network. In fact, I've called for one more thing, and that's the expansion of the net cast out by the academy that never, ever manages to find a single talented footballer across certain ethnic communities the length and breadth of Yorkshire in pretty much any age range - which is flipping ridiculous, and shows an obvious systemic preferential bias.

As for 'signing players with sell on value', yeah, duh, even that ding dong Rahic could figure that out; if it was that easy we'd have sold one of his 'developed' youngsters for a couple of mill by now. As it is, I'm not sure any of them are in the EFL.

We have twice tried half heartedly to develop released players and given up without giving time. But we can credit Rahic whether people like it or not on the big improvements in the academy we now have four or five in the first team squad and that’s unheard of for this club

Genuine question. What qualifies you to make these assertions? Interested to hear of your football background and expertise in this area.

 

It's pointless, Park, a released player is either good enough or he isn't, we aren't talking about 14 year old boys, they're generally 18 or older. We should be looking at those players, fine, trial them, loan them, whatever, but we don't need to sign 15 players who clearly aren't good enough just because we like the idea of a development squad.

Nahki Wells was released by Carlisle, and we didn't have to fart about with a development squad; we signed him because we thought he might be able to play first team football, and when he got his chance he proved us right. We didn't need to sign players like Tom Clare, who is apparently at Pontefract Collieries, just to flesh out a squad so Nahki can play irrelevant games in a non-competitive environment to 'prove' he's first team ready. Forget that, if they're not good enough, leave them, if they are, sign them, and at that point it's sink or swim. They either end up getting game time or they don't.

It's a beautiful dream, but the fact is those players we signed for Rahic's crappy development squad were here alongside players like Reece Staunton - and who did we keep? The one that was good enough for a bit of game time.

I don't know if you registered when I registered, but there was nowhere to submit qualifications, diplomas, degrees, or any of that stuff, so frankly I've no idea what you're talking about.

I'd also be very surprised if anyone at Bradford City Football Club wanted to know what qualifications I had if I were to make the case for a Director of Football and a scouting network in person, either, because, let's be honest, those qualifications don't exist and nobody on planet Earth has a qualification in 'having an opinion on football'.

BUT, I'm guessing that's not actually your question, and your actual question is why am I so sure we need a Director of Football and a scouting network?

 

Tbf regarding the cast offs Rahic brought in Robinson was good enough for league 1 football, maybe he could of developed even higher if he wasn’t scum. Patrick has now also moved to a league 1 club, he looked out of his depth here , but had a good spell at Carlisle. He’s not the first or last player we’ve misused and not got the best out of. It’s not just scouting, we need to get the best out of players Peterborough are experts at it.

I think what people say they want from a development squad is what Peterborough achieve without one.

But Peterborough sign players for good money and put them straight into the first team, and that money comes from their rotating door transfer policy and maximising transfer fees for players going to bigger clubs - which we've never done. The best we've ever done is sold McBurnie for next to nowt, then cashed in on ANOTHER team's effort at catching the big sale and taking a little percentage of it.

What Peterborough don't seem to do is sign a random lad released by a local rival like Barnsley and hope that in five years he'll be ready for some first team action; the lads they sign are first team ready.
