I think it was the Third Division (North) match bewteen City and Hull played on Saturday 19 February 1949 in front of an official attendance of 27,083.
That season City finished bottom of the table and Hull were champions, losing only one away match all season, and this was the one, with City winning 4-2 (4 of the 14 goals Hull conceded away from home that season).

I've got a book somewhere (Valley Parade Memories?) which I think was published by one of the City Gent editors. It has a few photos of the house and as @Bronco said the tunnel linked the house to the pitch.
Apparently it used to flood in bad weather and I think it used to suffer from being filled with rats!
The book is up in the loft. I'll dig out one weekend and try and post a few photos from it.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Kopendin1964 and Bronco like this. -

I read somewhere that its about 1949 and it was an fa cup game v Hull City.
I lived next to the ground in the mid 70s(Lupton Street) and don't remember those houses still standing, there were other streets behind the kop but i think they were due for demolition and all empty, there were lots of bricks and debris lying around for the hooligans to chuck at each other!!Kopendin1964 likes this. -

N.B. John later corrected the date of the photo to 1961.
