It isn’t, but the performances have lacked cutting edge and gone a bit insipid, and Lee Angol can’t shoulder all that responsibility on his return.

Once the confidence starts to drop, you are quite often fecked.

 

Agreed, I don't think I have seen us look a "beaten team" yet (in a league match) and realistically we could easily have another five points if we had stuck away clear cut chances v Walsall & Barrow and defended a corner at Salford. We are hardly basket cases.

 

This is what worries me Biker. The way Angol is being talked about in his absence is putting massive pressure and expectation on his shoulders ahead of his return, and is unfair and unrealistic. It reminds me of what happened towards the end of last season when Cooke was injured and everyone was saying results would pick up when he returned but it didn't happen. Angol has definitely been missed but to expect him to come back into the side and singlehandedly turn things around is just setting him up to fail imo.

Fair enough but every manager gets sacked it's the nature of football

 

Of course no manager is unsackable they are only as good/bad as their last result/performance
Football is a results based business
At the moment ours aren't good

 

It just feel like whilst doing ok and as soon as we lose one game it all goes 't**ts' up again and we can't find our way back..

 

Jewell also had a terrible start to 98/99, his second season, and that turned out alright.

 

Spent heavily that season, McCall, Sharpe, Mills, Whalley, Windass, Rankin.
Ok it’s two divisions lower but not one of this season’s signings will achieve anywhere near half as much as even Isiah Rankin.

 

I believe that's the point many are asking were they Adams signings, I would hope so.

Most of our current squad couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo either. Had a lot of pace Rankin, not a lot else though. Not the worst speedy ex Arsenal youth player we’ve had though.

 

Difference is Rankin couldnt hit a cows arse with a 4x3 sheet of plywood

But consider if an out of form Cook gets a serious injury we will be completely stuffed
We haven't at the moment got a fit striking partner for him let alone a replacement
Our midfield doesn't have goals in them, an occasional headed goal from Paudie isn't going to help much
The fringe players as we saw the other night and Mr Adams alluded to fail to attract interest from the National League
I know a couple of wins would boost belief and confidence but long term looks like another season in the khazi league
Considering all the hype and fans splashing out extra for season tickets it's a bit disconcerting

 

I actually witnessed the rare feat of him scoring a one on one. October 1998 when we beat Bristol City 5-0 at home. We were superb that day, even Rankin looked like a striker.

 

I remember that game well. What a performance. The way that hangar door opened to let him in was a sight to behold. I think that was the day we all thought that the dream could just be on. Interestingly we picked up 12 points from our first 8 matches that year, though it was 4 wins and 4 defeats

 

Hopkin tried to do similar and never lasted to see it through. Granted results were awful under Hopkin but it’s a slippery slope at this level with 4 months until the next window to be slagging the majority of the squad off already
