    Wycombe Wanderers:
Michael Duff felt his side “gave up a bit” in their 3-0 defeat at Stockport County, later stating his concerns his side could become the “nearly men” of League One this season. Make no mistake, this was a huge game for the Chairboys, who were 4 points behind the Hatters before kick-off, but have seen that balloon to 7 with Wycombe left with just 5 games to play – fewer than any of their potential playoff rivals excluding Reading, who have also played 41.

Wycombe Wanderers remain 3 points off the final playoff place, occupied by Reading, though Stevenage – 2 points ahead in 7th place – also have 2 games in hand. Plymouth Argyle are also a concern; level on points with Wycombe, the Pilgrims also have 1 game in hand, and have enjoyed better form of late despite their 2-1 defeat at home to 10 man Bolton Wanderers. Whichever way you slice it, then, the omens are not looking great for Duff and his players in terms of a challenge for a spot in the Championship.

All is not lost though. Bradford City will now travel to Adams Park with a remarkably poor away record, while Wycombe have enjoyed a rather fruitful time on home soil this calendar year. After 9 games played at Adams Park, Wycombe Wanderers have accrued 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats, a run that has included 5 clean sheets and seen them score 20 goals – more than 2 per game on average.

Hammering teams like Port Vale 4-0 is always good for confidence and the potentially all-important goal difference statistic, but Wycombe Wanderers haven’t reserved their best form just for the sides at the bottom; a 3-1 home win over stubborn playoff chasers Stevanage is something of a stand out result, while a 1-1 draw against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day also shows the Chairboys will not go down easily on their own patch.

Tricky winger Fred Onyedinma (10) is Wycombe’s top scorer this season, and Bradford City fans will remember him from that fateful day at Wembley Stadium in 2017 when Millwall grabbed a 1-0 win and secured promotion to the Championship at City’s expense – and the story thereafter for a newly-acquired Bradford City is a largely miserable one until very recent times. Cauley Woodrow (8) has been second-in-chief among the goals, while Sam Bell (6) and Junior Quitirna (6) are the next highest scorers. All of Caolan Boyd-Munce, Dan Casey, and Jamie Mullins have 3 each. Watch out in particular for Quitirna’s introduction as a substitute – since February 21st, the 25 year old has scored THREE 90th minute goals after coming off the bench, all at Adams Park.

What matters most now for Wycombe Wanderers is that Michael Duff doesn’t allow them to down tools. While their chances of promotion are considerably slimmer after their 3-0 defeat at Stockport, there remains some hope. The Chairboys are considered 23/20 favourites to continue their good run at home against Bradford City, and while sides like Luton Town and Peterborough United have picked up away wins at Adams Park this season, Bradford City have hardly shown they are well-equipped to repeat that feat. There is something about Wycombe’s inconsistent nature, however, that suggests there is always a chance of City coming through to take the victory despite their 5/2 price tag. Beating Port Vale 4-0 then capitulating 3-0 at Stockport is truly going from the sublime to the ridiculous; Bradford City will want to put pressure on them from the off on Easter Monday.

    Stockport County 3 – 0 Wycombe Wanderers

    Wycombe Wanderers 4 – 0 Port Vale

    Bradford City:
As the season draws to a close, the Bantams are in the process of showing what progress has been made this season as they replay their opening pair of league fixtures in back-to-back games. Improving on the 0-0 away draw at Northampton Town in the second game of the campaign, Graham Alexander’s men walked out 1-0 winners at Valley Parade. Now they head to Wycombe Wanderers for the reverse fixture of the opening game of the season, a tie City won 2-1 at home, and a simple repeat would more then suffice!

Antoni Sarcevic and Bobby Pointon were the goalscorers on that day, August 2nd, and they have continued to blaze a trail as the club’s leading marksmen ever since – in that regard, some things have remained constant. Other constants have been the impressive form and fitness of then-new boys Josh Neufville, Ibou Touray, and Max Power, with the likes of Stephen Humphrys, Matthew Pennington, and Curtis Tilt facing a few more interruptions throughout the season but still performing strongly overall. Tommy Leigh is the one face that started the first game of the season that has since departed, on loan to Bristol Rovers in his case, while promotion heroes Sam Walker, Antoni Sarcevic and Bobby Pointon have all performed extremely well at this new, higher level. Tyreik Wright, the only substitute introduced against Wycombe Wanderers that day, has stamped his credentials as a starter, although he was absent from City’s 1-0 win on Good Friday.

Graham Alexander suggested Wright might also miss the Wycombe trip after scoring 3 in 3 prior to the Northampton outing, saying he had seen “little warning signs” and was taking them seriously ahead of a busy run in period that involves 6 goals plus a potential further 3 if all goes well! Sarcevic, who was a more openly discussed fitness concern ahead of Northampton, did start on Good Friday, and the team will no doubt assess him again ahead of a second outing in just 4 days.

In further team news, Stephen Humphrys made his first start January 31st and admitted he was “shattered” upon being withdrawn. Whether that opens the door for a change up top remains to be seen, but Humphrys nonetheless took his opportunity brilliantly by grabbing the winner against struggling Northampton Town and bringing in 3 crucial points. If he is deemed too tired to start on Monday, there are options, although Ethan Wheatley’s poor cameo won’t exactly whet the appetite…

Bradford City fans will be hoping Graham Alexander has managed fitness levels well enough to put out the strongest possible side, even with Tyreik’s omission, as stopping the rot on the road isn’t only crucial in cementing a playoff place come the end of the season, it’s also crucial for the playoffs themselves. City will not have the luxury of playing at Valley Parade for the majority of the games involved in the mini-tournament, and getting over whatever hoodoo or mental block is affecting them has to come now.

    Right now.

    Bradford City 1 – 0 Northampton Town

    Burton Albion 2 – 1 Bradford City

    Prediction:
On the one hand, this prediction could be kept simple. Wycombe Wanderers have been decent at home, and their poorest performances have come on the road. Defeats at Stockport County (3-0) and Leyton Orient (2-0) couldn’t have come at a much worse time for Wycombe, though peculiarly before that they beat Cardiff City 2-0 at the Cardiff City Stadium. And that’s the thing with Wycombe, they are just as adept at dropping an egg (apologies for the Easter pun) as they are to go and beat Cardiff City away amid a string of defeats on the road. Most recently, Wycombe’s good home form was interrupted by a 2-1 defeat at Adams Park at the hands of Luton Town, another game Wycombe simply couldn’t afford to lose, again coming to a potential playoff rival (Luton are down in 11th, but just 1 point behind the Chairboys).

Bradford City, on the other hand, are a little more consistent – sadly. City haven’t bucked the trend away from home in any serious manner, and away day wins at Blackpool and Port Vale in 2026 might speak more of the lack of quality at those relegation-threatened sides than it does for City’s ability to perform in a huge game on the road. Even when City have put in a reasonable performance, such as away at Reading, they have then conspired to throw it away. 2 last minute goals broke Bantams hearts on February 28th, as City somehow snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. At Luton Town and Lincoln City, though, City’s demise was more comprehensive. Even the narrow nature of City’s 2-1 defeat at Luton flatters to deceive, with the Bantams grabbing a last minute consolation.

Heading to Wycombe Wanderers, it’s very difficult to find a measure of confidence as a City fan. Pointing to Wycombe’s 3-0 capitulation at Stockport is one thing, and it’s possible that if Wycombe’s players have thrown in the towel then there will be a hangover, and City might get something out of the game – but it’s asking a lot, isn’t it?

I think the best we can hope for here – and this is what I will plump for – is a point. A draw would be a good outcome, keeping Wycombe Wanderers at bay, and making it unlikely the Chairboys will be able to catch City this season with just 4 games for them to play. It would effectively eliminate a contender and increase City’s chances of a playoff berth. No, it wouldn’t instil too much confidence in City’s chances in the playoffs, but let’s walk before we can run.

The pick will be a 1-1 draw. Anything more will be a HUGE boon – anything less will pile a huge amount of pressure on an already taut-looking home tie against Stevenage.

    Final Score:
    Wycombe Wanderers 1 – 1 Bradford City

    Did You Know?

Wycombe Wanderers' ground is barely a mile from where the opening scene of Labyrinth was filmed (West Wycombe Park).
That is just one of many films and television shows that have been filmed there, that also includes A Clockwork Orange, Downton Abbey and Bridget Jones's Baby.

Perhaps I may visit rather than endure our usual away day performance?

Their shorts and socks are navy blue so clash with our black shorts and socks.

They played in green and white at ours.

They’re pretty prolific at home, so hope we can score first. Play like we did for 85mins at Reading, Port Vale, first 30mins at Burton, and we stand a chance. If they score first, it going to be tough.

Duff’s quite despondent in the local rag - doesn’t feel like he’s passing the buck from the full story but he’s not commenting on what he should be doing!

Duff added: “Football’s a tough game.

“No-one’s going to feel sorry for you. If you’re feeling sorry for yourself then someone’s going to go past you.

“The challenge to them is who’s going to step up when we need them. We know when we’re good, we’re good.

“But who’s going to grab someone by the scruff of the neck and tell them it’s not good enough?

“It’s not giving up in terms of downing tools because they’re bad lads. But that can’t happen.”

They are no mugs . Seen them several times. At Stockport the other week. Score flattered County tbh , Wycombe largely dominated without being threatening and that’s saying something!

Socks and shorts and similar to our home ones so they're going to switch out. They had a terrible green and white one at our place earlier which was probably the worst kit this season until Donny rocked up.

Every away game you sort of think - maybe this will be the one where we find a win? They're very unpredictable though - some excellent wins in March and some poor losses.

Hard to predict really but if we go behind I won't be optimistic.
